I don't see why HVM would turn down $500-750k.

Jean just tweeted that he'll be flying to to Indy on Sunday to prepare for Rookie Day. He obviously has something together, that would be a long ass flight for nothing

Some fans claim one series or another runs "real race cars." What's everybody else running, fake race cars?
INDYCAR - NOW IZODIER THAN EVER!
my blog ... I'm not a big fat woodchuck, I'm THE big fat woodchuck.

I think Indycar is setting themselves up for another Las Vegas black eye.
The reality is that EVERY driver in the 500 is a "rookie" this year. Not one of them has any experience driving the DW12 with traffic on an oval. Does it make ANY sense to put Alesi into that mix ?? He's going to try to perform well (just as Dan Weldon felt the pressure) in an oval race (which he has never done before) in a car that most people acknowledge has little chance of being in the top ten at the end of the race (unless 20+ cars fall out before the end).
I'm not looking forward to a "race" that has rolling chicanes (Lotus), a fair chance that a number of engines will periodically oil the track, and drivers like Rubens and Jean trying to learn the art of racing in traffic on an oval.
Indycar should be doing all it can to ensure that the drivers entered in the race are experienced on ovals. New cars and new engines throw enough variables out there that even the experienced drivers will have to do some "learning" in the early stages of the race. Mixing in completely "rookie" drivers like Alesi is IMHO asking for trouble.
So, after reading your post, you're essentially saying that Alesi and Barrichello are going to kill someone out there.
Rookies have raced at Indy every year. Stop with the paranoia. Even if something happens...guess what...it's racing. Conway and Hunter-Reay weren't rookies and look how that turned out, and it had nothing to do with skill.

He certainly sounds like he's got a deal.
But with who? Guess it's sort of got to be Dragon at this point. Bourdais, Legge and Alesi teamed together. Bizarre.
(Where does this article come from? According to it, Alesi will drive for HVM... While according to most serious sources, Wiggins rejected his offers. Alesi and HVM didn't make any official announcement on that matter, anyway.)
Cavin on May 4th
Lotus still only has three cars: Two at Dragon Racing and one at HVM Racing. Dragon could add the 500′s 33rd car for Jay Howard. HVM is believed to have turned down an offer to run former Formula One driver Jean Alesi, who is shopping high six-figure backing.

Not so at all.

Davey Hamilton and John Andretti (each in their late forties) seem to get around okay. Age doesnt stop them. Yes Alesi hasnt been in an open wheel car in 10 years or ever on on oval, but if Milka Duno & Marty Roth can do it, Jean Alesi damn sure can hold his own. Nobody said he was going to be any kind of threat, not that anyone driving a Lotus would be.
There's no doubt Jean Alesi's skill set and experience built up from all his years in Formula 1 and you could say the DTM if you want will help him around Indy for this one off first time oval race in an uncompetitive team with an uncompetitive engine. But it will be down to how well he can adapt to this new skill set it will take to be competitive around Indianapolis. There is no doubt unless he was in Rubens' shoes who has a vastly experienced team mate on the ovals and even EJ, set up and advice will not be a problem for him and the fact that he will be doing oval races after, next year he will be fine. Mansell soon adapated although he had the best oval package in 1993. Unfortunately racing for this fan fare united team that ran in 1997-1999 is not going to get to the line first and if there was bumping i'm sure he wouldn't make it.
No need to say sorry, you're right. i was there. Firebird IR Arizona I was there. Mansell brought me over to the sport. My point being that he adapated and was comptitive on the ovals instantly which in effect won him the PPG cup that year as the Lola,Ford-Cosworth wasn't a match for the Penske on the street/road courses. My point is that it can be done if you do things that right way like Mansell did and I suppose you could even say Juan Paublo Montoya in away and Zanardi got there in the end when the Firestone tyre got better on the shorter ovals and Team Target got a better set up.
