Okay, I lead a boring life and I had nothing better to do tonight so....
I did the adjustments for inflation for each year into 2012 $$$s... and the total purse from 1911 thru 2012 adjusted to 2012 comes to:
$499,603,615.
I'd say nearly Half-a-Billion in today's money is pretty impressive.
(I used the Department of Labors online Inflation Calculator. It doesn't go any farther back than 1913 so for 1911 and 12 I used 1913... that shouldn't make more than a few thousand difference. Also, it won't take #s over $10 million so I needed to calculate separate dollars over that amount for 2002, but I think the total is very close.)
Now time for bed. I need to get up tomorrow and find a life.....
