Any old teams being lured out to play is a good thing, IMO. INDYCAR should be striving to get teams back from both sides of the split.

FYI, Tyce is an EXTREMELY good guy. He has been involved in Indy Lights team ownership for the last several years, and wants to build an IndyCar Series team. What is wrong with that? The Series needs to expand its ownership base. I, for one, will be hoping they have a good run and would love to see Tyce in the Series.

Yeah there's a relationship but it's not exactly a typical one for an outfit that gets their name on an F1 team.

Lotus isn't funding the effort and has no technical input.

It's the former Renault/Benetton/Toleman team with a different label attached.

Expect it to be called something else next year. I don't think Bernie allows mid-season name changes these days.

Chassis number 66 is sitting in a crate at the Dallara plant in Speedway.

The shipping crate had a large number chassis number 66 sign on it.

Tricky thing here is his driver hasn't been in an open wheel car in 11 years. That's a bit of an issue.
I would be more concerned about fitness levels; in particular neck muscles and endurance for 3 hours of racing. 200 laps on an oval is a different proposition from an F-1 race in terms of the forces it puts it puts on your body.

I mean no offense or disrespect but:
Which has greater chance of happening?
Alesi winning the Indy 500 or Alesi dying at Indy 500?

I think when these two chances are pretty even, I think it's good idea to end this charade.

knee-jerk responses like this one on this board of people taking offense/looking to be offended to everything needs to stop.

in no way was my post a bash to tyce carlson.

it was simply a response to the surprise that a very, VERY unknown former IRL driver would become an owner of an Indy 500 ride belonging to a former F1 driver. Take a poll of fans on RaceDay Sunday. I'd venture 1 in 500 might have an inkling of who he is.

Come on, NO ONE saw this coming.

    that is all. carry on.

You gotta be jokin'-- Indy is probably one of the easiest on the body overall. The high pulse rate is due to the stress, not so much the physical activity and g-loading. Look didn't AJ do it at 50+? -- and Alesi is sure more athletic than AJ.

You can say that about a lot of drivers in the field every year. Even back in the good old days there were cars in the back that had virtually no shot to win. Should we just cut the field to 10 or 15 every year?

For one, it is the FIA and FOTA that approve the name changes. Nothing to do with Bernie on this. Two, they said they have the right to use the Lotus name through the remainder of the original contract. That's a good 5 years at least so we'll be seeing Lotus in F1 much longer unless someone comes in a buys the rights to the name.

It doesn't sound like Tree meant anything offensive by it. But I do agree with you. Seeing a small, local team scrap to put something together with an unexpected driver is an absolute treat, and something we haven't really had since Hemelgarn called it quits. It adds intrigue to the mix, along with an instant underdog.

    Didn't Proton(Lotus) lend $30 mil to Genii?
And that's how they ended up with the naming rights.

True, but remember that AJ Foyt has also been swatted by a lion, rolled into a lake in a bulldozer, and attacked by killer bees.

for some reason, I thought Alesi was in his mid 50s.
Turns out he is only 47.
Still very old for Indycars but him racing is not as crazy as I thought

No, it's a matter of how you prepare. F-1 courses still have high speed turns, but still somewhat slower than 200+ mph. However, IndyCars essentilly run IMS as 2 continuous turns. In an F-1 race, you'll see the same turn once per lap for 50 to 80 laps. So, if you hve 2 fast turns, your total is 160 times for the race. Compare that to IMS where you would see the 1-2 and 3-4 complexes a total of 400 times. Also, remember that F-1 races are limited to 2 hours duration by the rules and the races are usually 90 minutes to 105. The 500 will be on the order of 3 hours. Anyway, it would seem that a somewhat different focus is required for fitness training.

I've never seen evena single picture of the place. i also remembered another particular place in Vernheim near where we lived which was apparently was a park near my great grandmother's home.
