    Pick-N-Pull

It's kind of sad taking parts off of cars nicer than the one they are going on to, don't you think?

    he right.

I used to love just walking up and down the aisles of the local junk yards.

Havent dont it in years though.

I had a Pinto so I was in the local junkyard more than once back in the day

I always tried to keep an eye out for any little pieces that might eventually break and make sure they went home with me along with whatever part I was originally looking for

are there still do it yourself yards? i broke a mounting bracket for my alternator on the way to my first chili bowl, tied a rope around it to help it. drove into tulsa and followed a wrecker around until he stopped. he said why ypu following me? i told him i figured he knew where a junkyard was. he laughed and gave directions to one.

long story ( ask me about it sometime), but it was a great place with a character for an owner, charlie rightway. i got what i needed and made a new friend. went back every year to see the neat old (50's n up) cars and to visit, rightway salvage.

he took ill and we missed seeing each other a few years back... don't know what happened to him, but oh the great memories.

I was grabbing some interior stuff and some odds and ends for my old Malibu (not real old, mind you, but a '99 that saw hard use). It started out as looking for a seat and while I was walking around, it was starting to get to the point of thinking why are these sitting on railroad ties being parted out while I am putting mine back together.

Oh well, I got a seat, a bunch of interior trim pieces, wiper arms and nozzles, a right rear taillight, headlight header bracket and the stupid little elbow to the PCV valve that's only sold as part of the whole assembly.

Cleaning the front doors, dash and steering wheel required three buckets of water because it was turning black. I think the last time I cleaned that car out was April of '09.

All the old stuff here gets crushed fast. It's not like in the states where it seems like you can find anything for any old stuff anywhere.

When I was young, back in the early 1950s, I wanted to go to junkyards and yank off the hood ornaments of the cars. Many of those things are works of art.

The title of this tread reminds of the old race boat Pay n Pak.

Junkyards were fun. I remember going to one with a friend that needed a motor for his Rambler. They had one, so my friend asks is it guaranteed not to burn oil. The guy snorted and said it's a Rambler, he'd guarantee it DOES burn oil.
