True.
Could have killed him had his car started flipping. I know a black flag takes out a fan favorite, but come on........
How can you watch a race that has 5 laps to go, then 7 to go, then 3, then 5? Do they just suspend counting under yellow or what? Most weird thing I've ever seen.

Was it the actual pillar or could it have been some light bodywork that covers the pillar? If it was the pillar, the structural integrity of the car would be compromised and as another posted noted the roof could collapse in the event of a blow over.

Congratulations to RHR, & all the winning drivers & teams in the fantastic 2012 season. Looking forward to 2013!

I was thinking about that when DW was babbling incoherently about it. Mounting the window net to any part of the body of the car is something a first year hobby stock driver would do
Funny thing about body panels on race cars...they tend to fall off at the worst possible moment. And if the window net is mounted to the body, its falling off too
I just confirmed with a former poster here and friend who is an expert on all things NASCAR that it was nothing more than cosmetic damage. The actual pillar was not cracked, just the sheet metal which is nothing to worry about.

Now, wasn't that the same part that was supposedly illegal on JJ's Daytona car? And if so, did it fail because it was meant to bend/break to give an aerodynamic advantage?
I'm from a place called the internet. Nothing disturbs me.

Wanna know what's wrong with NASCAR? They've gone from Junior Johnson to Jimmie Johnson.
Wanna know what's wrong with IndyCar? It's gone from dirt ovals to street races.
Sorry I'm joining in late, Mr. Ring, but I just tuned in. It's been a while since I've been near one of those cars but I'd be very surprised if the sheet metal B post covering has anything of any importance attached to it - like a window net. If that stuff's not attached to the cage, then they need new tech folks. And I know where they can find 'em.
Of course, I'm getting older just like you and DW - in fact, I think I'm substantially older than either of you, but I've got a memory like . . . uh, whatever you call one of those things - a steel trap or clap or map or something.
