Maybe it is, maybe it isn't.

But its also one of the least experienced fields to ever run at Indy. Who has the most starts at Indy now? Is there anyone with double-digits starts in the race?

And 25% of the field (which is a pretty big number) either has never raced on a oval in their life or hasn't been on one in several years.

There may be a lot of talent out there. But there's not that much overall oval experience in this field.

    How's them facts for you?

Jacques made 2 starts at Indy. Finished 2nd and 1st. Won Indy Rookie of the Year in 1994.

Won 5 CART races and a CART championship in 1995. Beat Al Unser Jr, Bob Rahal, Michael Andretti and Robby Gordon (not exactly 4 strokers) for the championship.

Has 11 career Formula 1 wins and one championship and one runner-up finish.

That is the modern-day definition of a "world-class driver". Compare that resume with Bourdais or Will Power or whoever you want in the current Indy 500 field, and get back to me.

Only at TF, could a few folks actually say Villeneuve wasn't any good. If we want to keep bringing fossils back from the dead at Indy, why not go find JV and bring him back. A couple of years ago, it almost happened.
I am comparing them with Nuvolari/Senna/Prost - as mentioned with clarity. Can you tell me that JV is on the same level as those drivers - please do so - just post it already.

Hey if you think the guys you mentioned are better then those I have that's fine - not sane in the normal world but certainly in the world where Indy is the center of the universe. Your perception is pretty limited but - Meh... You're entitled to it.

already shown that's not much different from some previous years.
Note a lack of consistency: Baguette a 'good Indy driver' with 2 Indy starts, but Conway, with same 2 Indy starts, is not.

Baguette has been much better at Indy then Conway has.

2010: Helio Castroneves, Tony Kanaan, Graham Rahal, Justin Wilson and Mike Conway all swapped the lead in the final 30 laps after Dario dominated most of the day. Conway led 15 laps.

BTW, it's not just Baguette you're inconsistent on.

Let's be honest here, neither Baguette or Conway have been all that impressive at Indy, both Conway in 2010 and Baguette in 2011 got the lead late due to staying out on fuel mileage games. Neither got to the front on speed at all.

I'm with Gack when it comes to JV.

First and second in two 500's.

    CART Champion

    World Champion

    That's a world class driver.

Now, is JV in the same class as Senna, no, probably not, but he's a world-class driver.

Just like Al Kaline was a world-class baseball player, but not Willie Mays.

But Kaline did a lot of fabulous stuff on the diamond.

See, that should end the debate.

    C Paff just said that a non-American was a world-class driver.

That whole 2012 apocalypse thing might have some merit.

Ohh, Lotus....you are with me a lot more then you aren't.

Was Jacques the most pleasant fellow ever? Nope. Did his career really go downhill in a hurry after his F1 championship? Yes. For a 5-6 year period, was he maybe the best race driver on the planet? Yes.

I'd actually like to see Jacques take another stab at Indy Cars. If Michel Jourdain and Jean Alesi can, then why not a former Indy winner and IC champion?

And I am also pretty sure one of my nuggets of info was wrong earlier..Jimmy Clark won a F1 championship and Indy 500 too. At least I think Clark won a F1 title.

No, I think most would say that Baguette has looked far better at Indy then Conway has.

Conway looked scared to death last year. His car was dog slow, but he never looked like he wanted to push it all month. Hope he is over that. He won't last long with Foyt if he isn't.

Yep. Graham Hill did, too. Jules Goux _might_ have won title if they had existed back then.
