    Salut

Thirty years ago. With the threads about Ayrton and Roland, I think this is appropriate. Never forget our fallen pilots.

Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere, but here is a nice article written by Peter Windsor about Gilles:

I can't think of anyone with less than 10 wins who was more respected, beloved and legendary. Salut Gilles! I'm not ashamed to say I shed a tear when he died.

My daughter wasn't quite 2. It was the first time she saw her dad cry.

    Today wasn't much easier.

He was very special as a person and as a driver.

I was very fortunate to see and photograph as much of his career as I did.

Tony Brooks (whose autobiography I have just purchased) should be, but he was too self-effacing.

But I have to agree that I still miss Gilles's flamboyant style. A real racer.

The long video on there was great--even if I couldn't understand the language.

If you haven't gone there yet--Autosport.com has a bunch of Gilles articles and photos. Some great ones.
