There was a non wing race somewhere down in Southern Indiana last year after the 500.
Is there any short track races going on this year on Sunday night?

Faster than a bullet from a gun
He is faster than everyone
Quicker than the blinking of an eye
Like a flash you could miss him going by
No one knows quite how he does it but it's true they say
He's the master of going faster. -George Harrison
After the 500, down in southern Indiana at Tri-State Speedway is the "King of Indiana Sprint Series."
Up north in Kokomo, non-wing sprint cars will be competing in the "Kokomo Klassic."
Can't go wrong with either one, IMO.
If I were Ed Carpenter and you were a lady...
Is tri state the season finale? Both the KISS website and paragon speedway show a KISS race there June 2

I want chicken I want liver meow mix meow mix please deliver
It's easy to forget about Paragon. I might be there too. The track is in my backyard.

Kokomo is out of the question for someone heading back to SC on Monday. Tri-City might be tough since its 3 hours from IMS according to Google Maps.
As a veteran of the Sunday race run after the 500, I can offer you some tips...
Kokomo is easily makeable now, especially with the earlier start to the 500 again. It's a pretty easy drive and well worth going to as the track is fast and exciting. The show there has been well-run the few times I've done the Sunday.
Eldora can be done, too. That's about two hours IIRC. We stayed in Greenville, OH after that race. Also stayed in Richmond, IN one time after Eldora. That's maybe just as much out of your way, but I guess it depends how you're going home from Indy?
We want to go to Tri-City one of these years. We almost did it three years ago, but instead went to Kokomo IIRC. I think time-wise that it's doable. You'd have to park someone at the Speedway that allows you to get out rather quick. We used to park at the back of the Speedway Lions' Club lot when we had tickets in J Stand and that worked great for a quick exit. Our tickets are in Southwest Vista now so that lot is a friggin' haul. We now park on the opposite side of the railroad bridge on 16th street in the neighborhood to the right if you're coming from the Speedway. You can slip out the back there and find your way away from the track with minimal traffic issues if you park there.
I think that's key to getting to Tri-City. You need to have an escape route so you can be on the road not long after the checker falls on the 500!
We did Eldora after the 2002 Indy 500. We were in the parking lot at Eldora smugly listening to horrible traffic updates from Indy while we waited for hot laps. Its WAYYY too far out of my way now, but its perfect for anyone going home to PA, NJ or any other states in that general direction
Probably not doable then since Im sitting in NWV this time and camping on Auburn St. Doubt Im going to be in the mood to pack evrything up before I go to the race on Sunday
Yeah, being on Auburn, you're in pretty tight to the Speedway. It might depend on when the race ends.
Kev, one thing we're forgetting here. Tri-State/Haubstadt is an hour behind the rest of the state, Central Time Zone. You gain that hour going down there but lose it coming home.
Good info. But Im thinking I already know what I will be doing Sunday evening after the 500 and it involves a chair, a TV, a race, and a cold beverage.
Just sounds like alotta things need to work perfectly for me to get there and Im dont like being forced to scramble on my vacations
Wow... I did not know there's a time change there? Isn't that track in Indiana? I thought the whole state was now EDT?

Effective March 9, 2008 with the exception of twelve counties which observe Central Time, Indiana observes Eastern Time. The twelve counties observing Central Time are Jasper, Lake, La Porte, Newton, Porter, and Starke in the northwest, near Chicago, and Gibson (the track is in this county), Perry, Posey, Spencer, Vanderburgh, and Warrick in the southwest, near Evansville.[1]

Hmmm - looks doable - when leaving from south of downtown area (near Mug n Bun), you get pushed onto I-465 S anyway, then the 3 hour drive would actually only take 2 hours earth timeto get to Haubstadt - I think I can make it
! Rain delay or long red flag period would change everything, and probably make it NOT doable.
