Someone mentioned Speednet in a post I was reading this morning - WOW that's going back!
So what was your first message board you posted at and when?
Mine - Atlas (1999)

The reality is the numbers are dropping yet you call the deal 'ahead of its time'. The only end result that can be drerived from that is the series will be broke 'ahead of its time'.
irace at some point in the mid-1990s.

The old ESPN boards late 90's early 2000's. Hung around there until someone threatened jetdoc. I found TF by searching for information on the San Jose Farigrounds Speedway which lead me to Nostalgia.

I actually worked for Speednet (Indy Star) back in 1997. It was an internship, posting wire articles and writing headlines. Sometimes I would even post unauthorized original columns!
I wrote bios about all the IRL drivers in 1998, which CNNSI "bought" from the Star and used.
Cancer sucks.
I believe it was a motorsports message board tied to CNN in the late 90s until I got tired of being the token Indy Car fan and somebody told me about TF. What I like about this place is that always before I was the Indy Car expert and the go to guy if friends had a question about Indy Cars... then I showed up here where I am constantly humbled by how little I really know.
"Ride The Barrel & Get Pitted... So Pitted."
RASI, It is still around (barely). Ken Plotkin is about the only one I see post that I remember.
Speednet under an alias...
Chicago BlackHawks...2010 Stanley Cup Champions...It was fun while it lasted!
I seem to remember letting the world know that I had done the 1996 F1 season with the Editor for the Microprose Formula 1 Grand Prix game back on some Amiga board. I guess that was the first racing related thing on the net from me.
Could have been Jack Arute's old board.
SpeedNet where I started conflagrations using multiple aliasususus.

IndyStar for me around '97 or '98.
Started back on the Open Wheel Wizard site 1996 or 97 I believe. I was on speednet in 1997 and I'm proud to say I've always used DavidM!

Don't remember, but maybe 7th Gear?
All rides are bought. But occasionally the currency is talent.

Espn, in 2000.
Someone at IMS suggested that I check into TF and I've been around ever since, kind of.
Have a very blessed day!
CompuServe back in about 1994.
Spudnut, then 7G, then TF.

The IndyStar board, but I can't really pin done when. Let's just say it was long enough ago that Defender was funny...(j/k Disciple)
CompuServe Motor Sports Forum in 1989. Was credentialed through RIS (Racing Information Systems) at IMS from 1990 through 1994. I probably was the first daily on-line reporter from The Speedway, but can't say for sure. In any event, I spent a LOT of time tapping away in the press room in the early '90s.
I ain't quiet, everybody else is too loud.
I was on :edit: IndyStar board and came here after someone suggested TF to get away from all the IRL bashing over there.![]()

Probably the message board at South Jersey Dirt Racing.com . I think I found this place thru the Indyspeedway site
Faster than a bullet from a gun
He is faster than everyone
Quicker than the blinking of an eye
Like a flash you could miss him going by
No one knows quite how he does it but it's true they say

The previous incarnation of the Star board before they went with their "new" Pluck format.

I will forever remember that wonderful forum, and it's still active!

Man, that place was a cesspool.....

I started out at Openwheelracing.com around 1997. Len Calinoff and John LeVan (may they both Rest in Peace) were running that site and one night they decided to have their first chat. That's where I met the infamous Dog-Ring and Gofastturnleft. Gofastturnleft (Goat) told me in the summer of 2000 that there was this new website message board to pay attention to. I lurked until I decided to register and post in December of 2000. The rest is history. So, it's all Goat's fault that I'm here.
I lurked around Speednet just to read what this crazy dude "Defender of the IRL" would post.
I've made a ton of friends here at TF. Some fleeting friendships, some lifelong friendships. Thanks Turn 13 for letting me come here every day and for putting up with my issues at the O/T board whenever politics show up.
You forgot Micki!
Since John LeVan passed, you're the only one left that calls me Slime. It was Lenny that gave me the Slim moniker...after Lauren Bacall's character in "To Have and Have Not."
Those day of chatting were a blast. Too bad that we're all too busy with real life to chat anymore. A lot of us are around on Facebook but we're not really "talking" about anything of consequence. Hey, you heard from Ded lately?
