It has been great hearing Bob's calls of the Indy 500 on the ESPN Classic marathon. I've always enjoyed hearing him on the online feed and NBCSN. His love of racing has always shown through. I wish him the best and hope all is well with his family.
I completely expect to hear Bob fight back tears whenever he announces this on air. There is absolutely no denying his love and passion for the sport, but good on him for putting his family first.
All the best for you and your wife, Mr. Jenkins. Please let Mrs. Jenkins know we're all pulling for her.

When I first read the title of the thread I was going to pop in a post a comment that maybe it was time for him to leave. He hasn't impressed me much lately. Don't I feel like an ass to find out the reason he's stepping away. So many times, we are so instantly humbled. My best wishes to his family.
While I do believe he hasn't performed that well on TV in the last couple of years, I think its because he impressed me so much in the past. Although I was never a huge NASCAR fan, I always thought Bob, Benny Parsons and Ned Jarrett were a fantastic broadcasting team.
I think it sucks that Bob is stepping down but family comes first

On a personal note, I have had the opportunity to get to know Bob as he has graciously been the MC for the Ronald McDonald House Golf Tournament here for the last 3 years. What a wonderful and giving human being. Having lost my father to cancer, I know all too well what he and his wife are going through. Prayers always!

As someone who has dealt with cancer (both parents....Mother, successfully, Father not. And unfortunately, swiftly and fatally), my heart breaks and goes out to the Jenkins. My prayers/best wishes are with you, truly.

I met Bob only one time as part of a night before the 500 radio show and he truly is an advocate and asset to Indy car racing. My prayers and thoughts are with you Bob.

I became a race fan watching Bob call NASCAR and CART races in the 80's. Bob is one of the all-time great racing announcers and I'm sad to see him go, especially under these circumstances. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.

Heard on Trackside (Kevin Lee) that he didn't think Bob's departure was certain this May and still expected him to be at Texas...he mentioned Bob's wife's health issues but did not think Bob was stepping down at the moment's notice.
