Marv was mowing his lawn yesterday when he collapsed. He is in a coma right now. Marv is one of the best people you will meet at a race track...or anywhere.
He could sure use your prayers right now.

It's funny how you can feel kinship with people you've never actually met. My thoughts and prayers are with you Mr. Fish.

Heard about this earlier today via racefan20, I am so sorry to hear this. Marv is a great guy, I hope and pray he gets better soon.

Marv is in my prayers! I've had the pleasure of sitting under the big A with him and others at the Berg. Really really hope he's feeling better soon!

Hang in there, friend!
If I were Ed Carpenter and you were a lady...
Prayers are on the way from me!
Have a very blessed day!
Via Facebook and indianaopenwheel.com there is no change in Marv's condition. All we can do at this point is pray, think good thoughts and....wait. The hardest part.
Never had heard anyone speak ill of Marv. He has my love, respect and admiration.

Wanna know what's wrong with NASCAR? They've gone from Junior Johnson to Jimmie Johnson.
Wanna know what's wrong with IndyCar? It's gone from dirt ovals to street races.
my prayers are with him for a speedy and complete recovery.
From Jude on Facebook @9:00AM:
At Lawrenceburg on Saturday evenings Marv will always call Jude before the start of the heat races. Sometimes he will call during hotlaps and point the phone towards the track just so Jude can get an earful of engine noise.Update on Marv: He is being warmed up this morning, it will be 24 hours before he will be off all the coma meds, so we must be patient a bit longer, that is very hard for me. He came through the stint surgery stable, he looked very good to me but then I think he looks good all the time. As some know phones are limited in his room and I don't leave his side unless asked to, so don't expect any cal...ls from me when I am with my Marv. I would ask all visitors to remain in the visiting area now that he is going to be coming out of the coma, I do not want him troubled by who is staring at him in his condition, he would not like that, later when he is able to have visitors, then by all means come on up. Please respect my husbands wishes and don't take it as an unkindness, afterall we all want what Marv wants. We love you all and keep those prayers coming, he's not out of the woods yet. His lovely wife(as he calls me) JudeKeep the prayers coming.
The latest from Jude as of about 9:30 tonight:
Marv Update: Today he knew who I was and signed to me his love. I cried and he frowned, I told him they were happy tears and then he smiled. The breathing tube came out today around 4:30 and Marv is very happy although still a bit droopy from the drugs , they will leach out of his system in about 24 hours. I stayed with him till 6pm and we spoke briefly, he asked if he could go home tonight and I said no not tonight, this went on for a couple of hours so I saw he was tiring so I told him I would be back tomorrow, He signed he loved me and I kissed him goodbye. I left and got lost, I was in Walnut Hills, I also drove past the stadium parking garage for the Reds, Monique (the GPS) did it! I saw a sign for I 71 South and unplugged Monique, jammed her in my purse and finally got home an hour and a half later! What an adventure! I am pooped, out of gas and no minutes on my cell, overall not a bad day, don't ya think?![]()
That is such good news! Thanks for sharing...
Those GPS units will do you wrong sometimes...![]()
Good news indeed!![]()
I expect to see the missing man formation in Section A for the Midget Week race Saturday night at the 'burg.
Here's hoping for nothing but good things for Marv from here forward.
Gregg Sebald
I know you may not be up to it right now, Gregg, but we would love to see you fill the void in Marv's absence.
I would love to. I would be honored to. I'm not counting it completely out, but several thing have to fall in place for me to be able to go Saturday night. I used to just jump in the car years ago and hit 40 - 50 races a summer. I wish that was still possible for me.
I've probably seen and talked to all you guys over the last 55 years of being a race fan and just don't know your names.
If I could turn back the hands of time...
Sometimes I wonder why I post results, etc. here. Thanks, guys, for reminding me. The day will come when I'm no longer able to chase as many races as I do. Until then....
This was posted on Facebook around 5-6 o'clock yesterday afternoon. The reports just keep getting better. Not sure who Dave Smith is but Dave Rudisell, for those who don't know, is the promoter for Lawrenceburg Speedway and friend to us all.
Me and Mrs. Grogg were going to visit on Sunday but with the wife busy on Saturday I may have to do a solo this afternoon since things seem like they are moving encouragingly fast.Marv update: He is wide eyed and a little delirious yet, but not as bad as yesterday. every hour there is improvement. They will be transferring him to the Waters in Rising Sun early next week for his physical therapy, that is a relief for me, easier and shorter drive. I have white knuckles when I drive up to the "big city". Dave Smith stopped in and Marv was pleased, later on tonight, more people will go and visit with him, he did not remember that Vella and Wayne were there yesterday. He did tell me that Dave Rudsell was there. The test on his heart was excellent news, pumping strong and no damage. His stick wounds are healing nicely and the swelling has gone down tremendously on his arms and legs, he looks more like himself than a little toad. The scrape on his forehead is barely noticeable. That's it for now, I feel a nap coming on so until the next visit, God bless you all. Jude
Sure hope you can make it to the 'burg, Gregg. If you do come we are in Section A 2/3 the way up near the aisle, quite literally under the big A.
