Thread: anyone miss Downforce?

    anyone miss Downforce?

I joined when we were still "Downforce". I liked that name. Everybody and everything is a "Nation" except the Green Bay Packers who go be G-Force, pretty cool huh?

I live in Gator Nation here in Florida, kind of funny because the Seminoles really are a NATION.

My girlfriend shops at Pink Nation.

With every sports team being a "nation" I just wish we'd go with some thing unique to INDYCar...

I didn't miss downforce at Texas

    ----

Was Indycar one of the 1st to use the Nation 'gimmick'?

Just like many things with Indycar the original was better. The Original website is better than what it is now.

Do you remember those racing car templates that you could download then upload your cool designs. That was Awesome

Same as there old Forum was awesome better they shut that down

I do in the sense that the redeemables seemed to be a good way to keep one more active engaged in the sport. A lot of the experiences IndyCar Nation offers are very cool but only a real benefit to folks fortunate enough to be going to the race. That said, IndyCar Nation does fine for what it does...it's just something different.

I joined the ORIGINAL IRLCrew before it was Downforce, and now ICN... It SHOULD benefit those that attend the races. Afterall, it's THEY who're putting out the $$$ to attend the event. Sure I liked the PERSONAL nature of IRLCrew and the BEGINNING of Downforce more than I do the impersonal nature of ICN now. But ya gotta admit, they send Every member EVERY year some neat crap... At least I'm happy that they still do that...
    But that's just my opinion!

    I can't miss what I never had

I have only read about what downforce and IRLCrew were but as a younger fan this is my first year as a member of any "club" and I will be renewing my Champion membership next year.

I joined Downforce when it was free to join and enjoyed it very much for several years.

I let my membership lapse when they did not grandfather me and asked me to pay for the privilege of being a member of the official fanclub of indycar.

I had a problem getting "grandfathered" in and stopped by the Indycar office and was told to "never come to the office again - deal with it over E-mail" The E-mail was the problem and I then understood they had no care for the "fan." I DO MISS Downforce and the way it kept me energized and interested as the season had races in the mid-west worth attending. The only one worth attending for me Is Milwaukee - no Chicagoland, Kentucky, Nashville. The ones left do not catch my interest at all that remain a drive from Indy. Bad day for me - I guess.

I don't think the point system was fair. But I think the current membership package is not worthwhile if you don't attend races and are not fast enough on the website to get the few available things race week. And without Liza running things, I'm also not certain that Indycar nation will run as smooth on race weekend. The last few years Liza has really treated me well and made sure my race weekend at the Toronto Race was as awesome as possible.

Yup. Miss it a LOT. I really miss helping out at the races...that sort of thing made me feel more like I was a part of it all. Sorry to see that seems to have been left behind.

My first Indy 500 was 1973, haven't missed one since 1981. To date I have attended 35 Indy 500's, and probably 100 or so other IndyCar races (CART & IRL).
