"How did Ashley Judd's husband do?"

True story. I'm flying from MSP to Milwaukee yesterday afternoon and the woman next to me asked me where I had come from. I said Dallas and I went to the IndyCar race. And she asked, "How did Ashley Judd's husband do?" I replied, but I must admit it was with a chuckle after the way she phrased it.
    It's a Hoosier thing, you wouldn't understand...

Some people have trouble pronouncing his last name which may explain her question.

At least she knew he was in the series
I'd rather have 10% of the world interested in the ICS than 50% of US that NASCAR currently has

Hopefully he becomes known more for being him, than being Ashley's husband.

It took me about four years before he earned my respect.

But you are right, at least she knew he was in the series

Some guy called into 1070 The Fan after the race and was calling him that. Lots of Americans are just simpletons.

True, but lots of Americans have no problem pronouncing "Mike Krzyzewski".

We heard that caller too. It made all of us in the car laugh.

What gets me are the people that say HE-leo. I want to scream at them..."it's pronounced Ell-eo

Here in Detroit, Redwings fans can't say the name of their captain the right way. Here we are the self proclaimed "Hockeytown" and they can't even get the captains name right. His name is Lidstrom, NOT Lindstrom. He's one of the greatest hockey players of all time and he played for your team for 20 years. And yet they still can't say his name right. It's not that hard to pronounce someone's name.

That would depend upon the chosen achievement scale. However, assertions of who has "achieved" more is not germane to this thread.

People in Detroit don't get Ford right either. It's Ford, not Fords....

AM 1070 (WFAN) is formerly WIBC radio of Indianapolis, IN... one of several stations nationally owned by Emmis Communications. The former WIBC was the foundation for IMS from the 50's 'til the eighties with air personalities spending much time getting news from the track out twice an hour from the track during May. As things progressed they also hosted live programming from Gasoline Alley (Donald Davidson and a long list of former and current air personalities). Lou Palmer (deceased) and Jerry Baker are two of the most well known names for both their regular jobs at the station and covering IMS in May.

    Yet they could pronounce Fidrych.

Being a Montrealer, that Hockeytown thingy is amusing.

Is it Brent Musburger that also calls him Franchetti?!

Perhaps it's sad to say this but I'm impressed and it's refreshing that the woman had a clue as to who he is and what he does.
My first Indy 500 was 1973, haven't missed one since 1981. To date I have attended 35 Indy 500's, and probably 100 or so other IndyCar races (CART & IRL).

Not sure about the last name but he seems to pronounces his first name as Dare-eo.
