Saw Tony George sitting outside the Milwaukee Mile

Walking out of the track on Saturday, I saw TG sitting on a concrete block outside of turn 1 after the race. He was by himself, so I said 'Hi Mr. George'. He said hi and I kept on walking. I stopped and thought about sitting next to him and starting up a conversation, but was afraid what I would end up saying. Anybody else see him there? It was weird, almost like an outcast sitting there by himself...

I ran into him yesterday as well as last year. I had to bite my tongue.

I'm sure he was there to complain about the racing with Ed.

    I'm just kidding people.

He was watching from the top of a Turn 4 suite too. Don't know if he had crew up there to get a good view of the corners or was entertaining Carpenter guests, but there wre a few Fuzzy's pit shirts.

If he's as boring in conversation as he is on radio, why bother?

TG should be fully in charge of IMS. That has always been what would have been best.

Exactly where he should have stayed outside of the track on his own in 1994.
And so we came to Road America where we burned up at the lake, but at the speedway of Nazareth I made no mistake

I saw him, he was on the phone and pretty into the conversation. Sitting on a concrete block talking on the phone. Seemed odd...some paused and moved on like "that can't be TG"

I spoke with him Saturday in pits too. Nice guy

He's probably got more friends and reason to be at the track than most of us As for sitting on a concrete block... well, at least he's not too self-conscious or self-absorbed to not do so Just another day at the track, when it's not all pleasure or posing. The days can be long and the logistics disjointed. Sometimes, you've just gotta take a sit

I caught him alone at Kansas in 2009, got my picture with him and everything. I did it cause I knew I'd laugh about it years later.

You couldn't think of anything civil to say to a man whose family has been involved with racing for over 60 years? A man who grew up at the most famous race track in the world? Perhaps a little self-examination is in order.

For you conspiracy theorists. Walking through the paddock Friday I saw him talking to Chip Ganassi. As he walked away some fan wished him luck in the race.

So they were; saying hello, cooking up some plot or whatever you want to make up.

I gotta agree with you here. The split is over. Its been over for 4 years. TG is no longer in charge of the series and most importantly the owners are no longer in charge. Time to keep moving forward.

when I met him I couldn't really think of anything to say either, I just politely asked for a picture and then thanked him and walked off

Past history aside, Tony has always been friendly when I've seen him walking through Gasoline Alley. He's stopped on several occasions to chat and take pictures.

A good friend, who has been attending the Race since the early-60's (and whose father began attendingin the late-40's), has an incredible scrap book of pictures. One time we stopped Tony for a picture and showed him some of the shots. He was truly interested in the scrap book, and took the time to go through it with my friend.

While I did not agree with the path he took the sport in the mid-90's, I will adamantly say that Tony has a true appreciation for the Speedway and its history. For that, I respect him.

Funny how this thread makes me think of this tune. Not sure why...

I've conversed with Tony George on several occasions. The ONE thing that became EXTREMELY apparent in my conversations with him is his love of IndyCar racing.

He is a very nice, thoughtful, articulate and soft spoken person. Some of you should learn to do as Tony does and THINK before you speak. Maybe then you would keep some of your thoughts, pathetic as they are, to yourselves.

I agree and no matter what anyone says I like TG, a lot of credit has been given to Randy for things TG started. Some things take a year or two to come to fruition and they came to fruition. I have always respected Tony at least with Tony you could ask a question get a answer and know it was what he thought, if he said he would do something he did, he also would say no and explain why something couldnt be done. Tony also did a lot for the fan club and valued the volunteers and their opinions. If I had a fan club issue I could go to him and it was resolved.

I also wonder if Robin Miller had embraced the IRL instead of putting it down, if fans would have thought different about the IRL Robin is so influential with many fans, it boggs my mind. I can't stand Robin Miller for how he took money from CART to Down the IRL that isn't passion for racing that is greed.

As far as Tony sitting by himself my gosh hasnt anybody gone out of a meeting etc.. to talk on a phone relax, think, I have.

How is that so? Robin Miller has done more good for the sport than TG.

So you said nothing, which is exactly what anyone should do if they can't be polite.
Unfortunately, as more and more people believe that "It's all about me", the art of civil discourse is suffering.
