    President Declares War: June 18

Not Lincoln on zombies, Madison, on the Brits to start the "War of 1812"
Asked how he’d like to be remembered were he hit by a bus tomorrow, Tracy doesn’t hesitate: “I’m a race-car driver. At the last second, I’d swerve and avoid the bus.”

Thanks Novi, I knew you'd come to the rescue. I didn't want to post a Canadian link, as of course the stories up here are biased towards the winners.

Hmm... isn't this around the same time as the War of the Sixth Coalition where the British, Russia, Sweden, Austria, Prussia and others went after Napoleon and had him exiled? So in theory you declared war on my country too? WTF?!

That's what you get for keeping company with countries that are most interested in carving up a free country that just wants to be left alone...

Madison took advantage of England's preoccupation with Napoleon to time his declaration. Initial US success was soon pushed back once the Royal Navy could bring her guns to bear. The declaration wasn't about pushing back against a bully, it was opportunistic for American expansion.

Much like England contemplated opportunistic British expansion in the Oregon Territory when the U.S. had their dirty little war with Mexico...
