Madison took advantage of England's preoccupation with Napoleon to time his declaration. Initial US success was soon pushed back once the Royal Navy could bring her guns to bear. The declaration wasn't about pushing back against a bully, it was opportunistic for American expansion.That's what you get for keeping company with countries that are most interested in carving up a free country that just wants to be left alone...
