Ed - Eight the Hard Way

Seems like Ed has passed more cars than anyone the past two weeks just trying to stay on the lead lap or a lap down finishing 8 the hard way both weekends.

What is up with his quals and his race strategist? As much as I dislike Walker, based on some of his comments, I don't think some of the bonehead strategy moves were his call.

Last night race radio ripped Ed and Taku for not pitting, but I think Barfield actually was the one who screwed up allowing all the lap down cars to pit AND get their lap bac under the same caution.

The Kid can turn left, now he needs to go to summer school on the rights. Its gonna be a long summer...
    Natural Born Cynic

What irks me (maybe its too soon for the truth), DW was a 16-oval WIN specialist, yet the vast majority those boohooing for him, hardcarders & fans, alike are the same ones trying to kill anything with more than 9 deg banking & 4 corners, where Dan ultimately made his home...

He was closing on Barrichello and HCN quickly and had a chance to pass both as the last yellow came out.

Did I miss something he said? I have always thought Walker was one of the classiest people in the field.

He would of been 3rd if Rahal didn't hold him up for about 10 laps

My dislike goes way back decades. His comments that I referred to were from Texas that alluded that he was not in charge of race strategy and he also wondered why the 20 choose to pit out of sequence and try and make the last 70(??) laps on one set of tires...

Good for Rahal on fighting for his position. Good for Ed on eventually getting around him. Those kinds of battles are what made Iowa a great race.

Nice job by Ed two weeks in a row to battle back onto the lead lap. Yes...there was some luck involved...but he had to put himself in position to take advantage of the caution periods when they came out. Nice job.

This time he didn't lose a lap just because he was unlucky or had bad stops. He was pretty slow at the beginning of the race. But he did use some luck and a better car toward the end of the race to finish strong.

He set the fastest lap close to the end of the race. I don't recall whether it held up though, or if somebody else topped it.

Oh okay, I was mainly referring to the reason you disliked him. He seems to be pretty popular in the paddock by both drivers and other teams so I was just trying to figure out if he did something that I was unaware of.

Watching Ed Carpenter race at Iowa was one of the highlights of the race. Too bad his Pit stop took him out of contention for a podium spot. He was fun to watch!
