June 29 thru July 1 Weekend

This one's a bit different: Two dates in the St. Louis area already lost for the weekend...due to heat. I suppose that the fact that it was 108 around here today may have had something to do with it. MOWA 410 winged sprints at Tri-City and the regular UMP weekly show at Highland are cancelled. As an aside, the MOWA show was also $1 beer night so they would have been dropping like flies.

To the best of my knowledge the two day POWRi show at Belle-Clair is still on (though under review) and the Hell Tour at Pevely is still a go as of now.

Lincoln Park ran their Thursday night show tonight. 17 sprints, maybe 10-12 super stocks.

Ex-sprinter Kenny Carmichael won the SS feature. Chad Boespflug won the sprint feature after a good battle with Shane Cottle.

I'm sure there were more people in the pits than in the stands. Don't know if the promoter will keep doing this. He's done all he can, even gave away ice water and then sandwiches at the end of the program.

Sprint feature over at 9:30. God deal for those who have to work tomorrow.

Wanna know what's wrong with NASCAR? They've gone from Junior Johnson to Jimmie Johnson.

Wanna know what's wrong with IndyCar? It's gone from dirt ovals to street races.

I'll be returning to an old Family tradition and attending the Johnny Roberts Memorial at Hagerstown Speedway Saturday night with my son to see the racing and Fireworks. As a kid our family attended this race every year. This will my sons first visit to Hagerstown.

The two day POWRi show at Belle-Clair has been cancelled as well. At this point only Hell at Pevely and a weekly show at St. Francois County Raceway are still standing.

On edit: St. Francois has now pulled the plug, too. I would find it highly ironic if I-55 were to cancel the Hell date because of excesive heat.

    Very cool.

Any word on Hagerstown? I recall reading it was up for sale at one time

AFAIK my home track is open for bidness tonight. I usually like to get there a little early and sit in my folding chair and read a book in the shade for a while before going in. Then I like to yuck it up with the boys for a while before hot laps.

Im thinking I leave Casa de KevMc as late as possibe today and get there as close to hot laps as I can.

Im ready to get to the track by Wednesady ALMOST every week. But theres one or two times a season when I really dont feel like going. Today is going to be one of those days

Friday night at Bloomington saw Jon Stanbrough win. But Brent Beauchamp stole the show. He came from 16th to 2nd. A week ago Brady Short came from last/20th to win. Someone has figured out how to prepare this for sure.

    Fireworks were....well, fireworks.

Gas City also cancelled last night. Not as ironic as the Hell Tour, but.....

    Home tonight, Kokomo tomorrow night!

21 cars with Kyle Cummins winning. Maybe not the quantity but the field was surely quality.

Great URC feature at Delmar. Ed Aiken beats "The Pink Panther" Kramer Wiiliamson by a whisker in a drag race to the finish. Robbie Stillwaggon leads the whole race and does a 360 coming to the white -- has to go to the rear when the yellow comes out. Wow.

Kramer is just ridiculous. Twice as old as most of his competitors, and close to three times as old as some of them

He was on it last night. URC at Delmar is a pretty cool show. With the hot conditions the cushion was right on the lip where the next stop is off the track. Pretty ironic that Stillwaggon was putting his right rear on that curb perfectly every lap without lifting, then lost it in turn four coming to the white. Tough luck for Andy Best who was coming through the pack and catching Stillwaggon in traffic, he got caught up in turn 4 and didn't finish. That's what put Stillwaggon and Kramer 1-2.

I don't understand what's caused this massive car count drop in Silver Crown? They went back to the old car... so there should be plenty of them around. Are the purses too small?

I wonder how many owners were put off by being forced to buy the Super Speedway cars and just never looked back.

Yes there was some money issues late last year at Hagerstown, and a for sale notice on a local realtor site, but it came down after about two weeks. They have cut back on some of the bigger shows and are focusing on more low cost family friendly weekly events. Race program Saturday was pretty good! Old Gary Stuhler pulled a last turn pass of for the lead to take the Johnny Roberts Memorial race. Father and son had a great time!

A little birdie told me that some owners hate the new Official Fuel of USAC

It sometimes gels inside the engine, and sometimes just wrecks things.

They didnt say the word "gel" but you get the idea.

Methanol was the unbroken thing they decided to fix when some fuel company coughed some green upstairs so the series now requires they run Ethanol,

but its not working out as good as methanol did

More than a couple owners said GFY since they couldnt afford tearing their Gaerte apart a couple times a weekend

I almost never see Silver Crown races but Im pretty sure they needed a B Main at last years Hoosier 100 and this year I think 19 took the green.

They were sort of making a recovery from the Silver Crown COT debacle but the PTB shot another toe off with the fuel deal

Im not involved in any way shape or form with the series

But thats the 2012 season in a nutshell from what little I heard

Theres enough Indiana folk here who can confirm or deny what I just added to the mix

    The natives are restless

There are multiple threads on iow.com that discuss and cuss this subject. The drop in car counts can't be totally blamed on the economy.

Mopar usac national/stars d1 midget race results

USAC Midget car counts aren't that great either. The reason these races are having good counts is that they are co-sanctioned.

Josh Cunningham won at Paragon on Saturday night.

Kokomo was rained out last night.

I got the word just before I was to leave.

Mother Nature Takes Independence 50 at Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH, OH (JULY 1, 2012) - Due to heavy rainfall that began shortly after Time Trials, officials of Portsmouth Raceway Park and the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series made the decision to cancel the Grover Motorsports and Engines "Independence 50". The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will return to Portsmouth Raceway Park during Labor Day Weekend for the $10,000 to win "River Days Rumble 50" on Saturday, September 1st.

"It is really unfortunate that the heavy rains came in this evening, especially after the region saw such devastation earlier this weekend," stated Portsmouth Raceway Park promoter, Donna Rayburn, "we have amazing fans that came out to support us and the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and we look forward to seeing all of them return for the River Days Rumble in September."

For more information on the River Days Rumble at Portsmouth Raceway Park, visit www.portsraceway.com.

The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will be back in action on Tuesday, July 3rd, at Muskingum County Speedway in Zanesville, OH for the "Budweiser 50". The event will feature Red Buck Cigar Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains, and the 50-Lap $10,000 "Budweiser 50" main event.

For more information on the "Budweiser 50" at Muskingum County Speedway, check out www.themuskingumcountyspeedway.com.
