None of it sounds like all-day rains.

But at least it sounds more significant than what we've been dealing with for the last two months.

Fishers, IN joins the mandatory watering ban: http://www.fishers.in.us/egov/docs/1342185302574.htm

We've known this was coming. Its been all over the news, but people in my neighborhood just keep on watering their lawns. Pretty selfish if you ask me, and yes, I know you didn't ask me.

Looks like we might be entering El Niño. What does that mean for the US?

Tony Barnston, chief forecaster for the International Research Institute for Climate and Society, which works with the Climate Prediction Center, said an El Niño event could help relieve the ongoing drought conditions in some areas, but potentially worsen the drought for others.

“The southern tier of U.S. states tends to have above-normal precipitation during winter when there is an El Niño. So this would be helpful for the droughts currently lingering in Texas/New Mexico, and Georgia/Alabama,” he said in an email conversation. “It would not help the ones in Kentucky/Indiana though, and could cause a new one in the northern Rockies.”

If I could ship it to you, I would. After a record-breaking drought in 2011, we're awash at the moment. I've had about 8.5" at my house in the last week, almost 6" in just the last 3 days. Not as bad as some areas in the northwest part of the county...16" in the last week, 13" in the last 3 days.

I'm going to have rent a herd of sheep to get the lawn under control...

The 60% chance of rain just didn't materialize today!

Here in Chicago, got an inch and a half about 3 p.m. Then, about an hour later got what must have been 2 inches. Checked radar, and there seems to be rain all over the country. The rain that hit us is coming from the southwest, and that rain band goes all the way to Texas.

Just checked, it seems to have drifted more to the east.

Hokey Smokes, it's raining in Columbus, In. Doubt that it will be long lived though. It's even thundering.

I'm going to stop talking about it until it happens.

I don't believe in "jinxes," but I'm tired of getting my hopes up.

I remember a bad dry spell when I lived in northern Ca. When it finally did rain I was at work. We went outside to watch the rain and noticed that all the people in neighboring buildings were out watching it too.

I hope you folks get past this soon!

I'm up north for a bit but it looks like southern WI is getting a small amount right now.

Went to pick my son up from his friend's house and it rained on my car while I was out but it was very light and there was nothing on the ground at my house.

    Another swing & miss.

    Radar looks promising though.

Driving home from Cars & Coffee this morning and it rained right at Castleton. Just enough to make the car dirty and nothing else. Annoying.

Finally it rained today in eastern Vigo County - nice and gentle, lasted about 45 minutes around noon today. It has been a long time since Terre Haute had rain (at least on the east side). A one night respite from plant watering anyway...

    Nothing in Southport.

Been since like May 5th since I've had any measurable precipitation at my house. Tuesday will be 7-weeks since I last cut the grass. My lawn isn't a golf-course so I don't believe in sprinklers...automatic or otherwise so my grass is a lovely shade of Sahara Desert tan. Up at Lake Wawasee I had to lift the boat to be able to un-tie the bow & stern lines in the boat-house.
My first Indy 500 was 1973, haven't missed one since 1981. To date I have attended 35 Indy 500's, and probably 100 or so other IndyCar races (CART & IRL).

    [trying to be positive]

At least there has been some solid rain in and around the reservoirs, particularly Morse.

That seems to have happened countless times this summer - as if Indianapolis has some kind of force field over it.
