Thread: Latest News on Official Toronto Tweet-Up. Need A Consensus On Idea.

Although you are missing Friday it's Saturday that really stands out in my opinion besides race-day. The Firestone Fast 6 and knock-out qualifying rounds provide some great action. I'm not sure whether Star Mazda is all that great. It doesn't have a TV presence at all or at least not in Canada.

In fact, if you don't follow it in written reports on indycar.com you don't notice it but Indy Lights has a strong presence. As long as I see Ferrari at least once this week and preferably a race I'll be happy. I know I shouldn't but I never really pace myself over the weekend wanting to see all. As long as I have tons of water handy I make it through alright. I'm glad they went 90% open-wheel and 10% Ferrari though for support races. Still I think the word NASCAR even it was the regional Canadian series would sell more tickets. I wonder what the real story with them and Canadian Touring Car not being back is. I guess not enough butts in seats but dunno.

My family and I are going to the Honda Indy for the first time on Saturday and Sunday. I'll try to hit up the tweet up. @MikeFerrell15 I met @99forever 2 years aga at the Toronto Motorsports Show so I know twitter / trackforum people don't bite.

I'm hoping we get some tourists at the tweet-up. It's always interesting to me to see how they interpret our city. Their opinion of Rob Ford could be interesting. I think Hinch should run for Mayor of Toronto. Lord knows he'd be better than who we've got. I often wind up taking pictures for tourists and snapping more than I have ever appeared in. The funniest thing a guy asked me was "Where's The CN Tower" when it was noticeable in front of him. I said "You're kidding right?!" He rephrased "How do I find the CN Tower" and was on his way albeit I put him on an incredibly scenic and winding route to it for fun. Never ask me for directions as I always give the hardest way to get there. It's the only fun I get all day downtown.

When it comes to restaurants near the track it's hit and miss. If you want an amazing breakfast hit Cora's on Wellington or Carlton @Yonge. They're terrific. I always recommend Dunn's Famous on King Street as they make Montreal Smoke Meat Sandwiches that are world renowned. We're known for the Danforth and Greek food you can get there but it's hit-and-miss too. Places like Astoria and Omonia which were once incredible are shells of their former selves now that new generations are controlling them. Sports bar probably Gretzsky's the food is standard pub food. The best part though is Second City comedy club right next door. Great sketch comedy if you're in to that. I think they have a dinner/show package worth checking into.

The best AYCE Sushi I've had in Toronto that is incredibly fresh and well prepared is Yellowtail at Woodbine and 16th. It's in Markham but worth the drive if you check out Unionville Main Street which has buildings all looking like they did in the 1800s. Backdrop for many an American film. Anyways, excited to meet whomever comes. I seldom get to talk about IndyCar with anyone as I'm the only person interested in it around here. I don't know why but it's been like pulling teeth to get people to experience Free Friday and NONE of my friends will bother to go (their loss). How do you know you hate something or don't like it without trying? That's the mentality I get along with "too noisy, pollutes the environment, and why would anyone want to watch cars going in circles?" That's where my friends are at if you wonder why nobody is attending with me. I also get the "it's better on TV and air-conditioned" types too. Air-conditioned yes, TV have you seen ABC? Totally 100% different atmosphere and event attending than seeing it on TV.

Same experience - i've always found it like pulling teeth.

I have a start/finish suite pass and a space in the David Ostella garage tour tomorrow (from IndyCar Nation) but even that doesn't seem to by persuading my friends to come down for free friday, I even have a couple free tickets for Sunday that I haven't been able to give away. Oh well, their loss.

Well, that goes for my friends in Toronto anyways. I know a few people in Ottawa that would love to go but can't make the trip in this weekend.

If kidnapping wasn't a federal offense I would do it and tie them to the roof of my car Clark W. Griswald style. They can say whatever they want about the event until they get there. These are the kind of people who are instant converts and only know a good thing once they witness it.

I'm only coming down on the Friday. I'm staying with the inlaws this weekend in Markham and that was the only day I could get there. Enjoy the tweet up all!

Send me a DM ForsytheIndeck with how to text you and I'll give you my details. I'll gladly chat with anyone on Friday. Probably best after first practice around 12. BTW, I never mentioned it but the name's Geoff and I'm on Twitter as @powerfantatic Incidentally, silly me I didn't admittedly know what a Hashtag was or did. I thought it was a breakfast potato Someone sent me a message on Facebook about what to use. Use #toindychat It looks good. Can't wait until Saturday. I just can't wait and handle the anticipation for tomorrow to come already.

Hawkes: I'm from Markham actually and making my way down on the Stouffville Go Train and or Bus to Union. It's a brief layover at Union but then I board the Lakeshore Go Train to the track. If you're coming tomorrow send me a DM and I can text you my number. I'm down with meeting people both on Saturday and throughout race weekend too. Hopefully, you will be able to attend the rest of the weekend but at least enjoy tomorrow.
