So basically if IICS could get a schedule of 50/50 road and ovals, keep some Americans in the series and do double file restarts, they could pretty much guarantee that somewhere between 200 and 300 people covering a broad age spectrum would either attend or watch each race and be relatively content.

Yes to dirt. A Silver Crown car won't cost them any more than they currently waste on scooters and hospitality tents. Probably about the same cost as a front or rear wing/bumper assy. I've been thinking about this since I saw the Viceroy Champ Dirt Car in Parnelli Jones wing of the IMS museum. I believe that car competed when dirt races still counted toward the championship.

Q1: How many Americans would you like to see in IndyCar?
Don't care. If you're from Mars, it doesn't matter. If you've got the chops, or the desire, welcome aboard!

Q2: What type of schedule would you like to see?
50/50 split. I like road courses too, and I think a true champion should be able to master all disciplines.

Q3: How do you feel about the new car?
Love it. It's swoopy, wild-looking, and appears to take what's been dished out. More, the racing has been incredible.

Q4: Do you prefer an airbox or a roll hoop?
Don't Care. As if it matters.

Q5: Should IndyCar have double-file restarts?
Yes. Except for the last five laps. There, that was simple.

Q6: Should IndyCar have standing starts?
Yes. On road and street courses, absolutely.

Q7: Should IndyCar race on dirt?
Yes. See Q2. There should be at least one dirt race, and they should count for the championship. Put that into place and watch the spridget boys and girls come out of the woodwork. Besides, it'd be nice to see Target or Penske on the side of a Silver Crown car.

I'll offer some expansion and explanation to my votes in THIS poll.

Q1: How many Americans would you like to see in IndyCar?
As many as are qualified. I am more concerned with seeing the BEST drivers, not just the best American drivers. However, I do think American companies should get behind American drivers the way some countries support their drivers, like Venezuelan PDVSA/CITGO supports EJ Viso, for example.

Q2: What type of schedule would you like to see?
I personally prefer to watch oval races, but enjoyed both as a participant. I do like the fact that the IZOD IndyCar Series races on all types of circuits, which makes Indycar unique, and also makes it the most challenging of any racing series. I would vote for a schedule consisting of 25% street courses, 25% natural terrain road courses, 25% small ovals (less the 1.5 miles), and 25% large ovals (1.5 miles or greater).

Q3: How do you feel about the new car?
I LOVE IT!!!!!! It's produced the best racing of any major racing series, hands down.

Q4: Do you prefer an airbox or a roll hoop?
I DON'T CARE. The racing is good, and THAT'S what really matters!

Q5: Should IndyCar have double-file restarts?
    YES!!! Everywhere, even Indy.

Q6: Should IndyCar have standing starts?
YES, on the street courses, but not on natural terrain road courses, and certainly not on ovals.

Q7: Should IndyCar race on dirt?
NO, these cars are NOT designed to raced on dirt, period.
INDYCAR... Home of the BEST RACING on the planet!

Looks like a joke to me. Car can't even gain traction and sounds terrible. Only way for IndyCars to race on dirt is either with an entirely different car or they would have to spend several thousand in upgrades on the current car. What's the point of all that for one race?

PS: I'm 31 and voted in this poll but it's kind of annoying that I get lumped in the same age group that has all of the members who think we should be racing on dirt and have front engine cars.

I mean damn I know I'm not in my 20's anymore but 31 isn't that old and I'm certainly not part of the "back in my day......." crowd.

Bingo. And if us people that say no to dirt racing in IICS have to say why not then the people that are for need to say why for. It's only fair.

It looks no more out of place on dirt than it does on a street course.

... Car can't even gain traction
Because it's on pavement slicks instead of dirt tires, the gearing and weight distribution haven't been optimized, and the track is all loose gravel and dry dust v. a well groomed and hosed down dirt track. edit - Plus trying to go fast (and turn) with little traction is part of the challenge for the driver. See Cars

    ... and sounds terrible.
It sounds exactly the same on dirt as it does on pavement.

They do that now with different bodywork, shocks, etc. for the different ovals, street and road courses.

Why have dirt shows? I've already answered that. A true open wheel National Driving Champion should be able to drive anything.

I don't think anyone is saying you should take a DW12 and run it on dirt. That would be silly (at least.) I don't know the current cost of a Silver Crown car, but I'm going to take a WAG and say it's significantly less than a DW12 and all its accoutrements. Want to run IICS? Want to bring up a driver for the ranks? Invest in a Lights car and a Silver Crown car. Find one that can excel in both, and there you'll have your real "driver of the future", with apologies to my fellow Tennessean Mr. Newgarden.

I know it won't happen, but I can dream.

The F1 car was being filmed for this commercial for the race:

I thought that it was the coolest promo for a race that I had seen in a long time. It made me want to buy tickets for the Austin race, and I live in Seattle.

Then don't use these cars for the dirt races. Teams that can afford it can get dirt cars fairly cheap. Teams that can't or just aren't inclined to buy new dirt cars can contract with an existing dirt car team. It's been done before.

Teams that don't mind losing a bunch of championship points don't have to do either.

I usually agree with your opinions, but here you are just joyfully spending other people's $$$. Why not have the ICS drivers race an ARCA oval too... the car rentals are cheap.
