    ABC Coverage of Toronto Indy

if anyone really cares about IndyCar as the race is on ABC.

    - No NASCAR race
    - No major golf event
    - No football, baseball, or basketball
    - No Olympics
    - No going outside because it's still freaking HOT !!!

Whatever the ratings turn out to be, they certainly can't fall below that .18 of a stinker in Iowa. Or can they?

The last Toronto races on ABC were 1.0 or higher, highest non-Indy ratings of those seasons IIRC.

If I had to guess, the casual audience has more people who care about F1's current product than IndyCar's current product. (The millions of viewers lost in the split, basically)

F1 is NOT live but a tape delay. The TDF is also on.

The TDF stage finished about an hour and a half ago on NBC.

    The weekly "ABC sucks" thread...

Missed a restart (again) and missing crucial passes as usual.

I don't think there have been enough commercials today.

Doubtful. Casual channel flickers are usually not able to tell the difference between Formula 1 and IndyCar. I also do not believe the 'split' disenfranchised automatically sought out Formula 1. Most just left or went toward the fendered series.

That said, the technical quality of Formula 1 broadcasts is always vastly superior to the IndyCar production, which is a real shame.

What struck me checking on F-1 during the commercials was the difference between running on a genuine road course and a street course.

I have a great deal of respect for people who declare how fed up they are with Trackforum and how they're going to ge so happy posting on another board.

I have less respect for people that bring up a subject from another site to another for no reason at all. Especially something that should probably be dealt with through PM.

F1 wasn't even in HD until last year.

To me, it's about as exciting as watching golf on tv.
But I'm guessing the ratings are not trivial....or it wouldn't get so much coverage.

F1 looked fast, Indy Cars looked like they were in slow motion.

Although to be honest, I really didn't watch much of the Indy Car race. This part of the season is basically a waste of time.

I just sent Robin Miller a mini-rant on ABC. I actually think Goodyear has done a better job as of late (Marty is a lost cause), but any race in which they miss a restart is a fundamental failure. Well, they seem to do it at least once a race and don't properly set up the other restarts they actually do capture. I realize I am preaching to the choir (save for those on here who hate any criticism of anything IndyCar whatsoever), but it was somewhat cathartic venting to the mailbag, particularly when it doesn't seem there will be any recourse for ABC's nonfeasance. I was stunned after the Indy 500 when Randy praise ABC's broadcast even though they missed three restarts. To me, covering restarts is the most basic element of proper race broadcasting.

Why doesn't ABC go side by side during yellow before the re-start? Seems like an easy fix to all of the re-starts we have been missing all year. Ernest

ABC prioritizes pit stops as being more "exciting" than the restart of the race.

So we get all the yellow until the pit stops, then they go to break.
