Thread: IndyCar making less in US TV revenue than Tour de France

    It's not comparable.

Though I am fascinated by TdF sponsorship because you'd think with all their drug issues the place would be toxic for corporate support.

And I know the Radioshack deal was set up during the Armstrong era but what the hell do they get out of it now? Especially since one of their guys just had an 'uh oh'

Honestly, in this country, I figured the Tour de France was way more popular than the Indy 500.

Certainly it's got a dedicated audience with a lot of money to buy bike gear that turns in, but it wasn't pulling massive ratings, even with Lance Armstrong's PED-fueled performances.

720,000 for the peak day's viewership 2010 with Lance Armstrong in the field while the Indy 500 this year had over 6 million.

Color me stunned, but I stand corrected.

But that's Versus. When Armstrong has clinched and they show the final run through Paris on a main network, it does okay. I don't know if Indy beating, but enough to get a good TV slot.

and here is a good reason why the TDF gets more than IndyCar. Despite being on weekday mornings for the most part, ratings increased by 29%. This is despite the highest American finishing 11 minutes back in 5th place

This means people are not having any issues finding the NBC sports network (which some IndyCar fans claim), and ratings can significantly increase despite no Americans (the other false claim by Indycar fans)

Hasn't Indycar been getting the same thing? Large % bumps on small eyeballs.

    Not 29%

These numbers are similar to IndyCar. HOWEVER, lets keep in mind IndyCar is televised on weekends, not Tuesday mornings when most people are at work

Long Beach had a 21% increase...
