    Mazda Road To Indy Updates

Well, it seems like the USF2000 champions has been a one sided campaign as long as you're with Cape Motorsports. Despite winning all but one of the races so far Spencer Pigot is only 6 points ahead of his teammate Matthew Brabham who has placed second to Spencer in all the races but one (which Matthew won).

The Star Mazda championship returned to road and street courses in Toronto and Jack Hawkswroth welcomed them with open arms as he won both races in Toronto. Jack not only earned the victory but also earned pole and fastest lap times on both races as well. De Phillippi finished both races out of the top 5 and fell 39 points behind Jack in championship points. With the rest of the races on street or natural terrain road courses it's going to be tough to take down the points leading Hawksworth.

In Indy Lights the race for the championship is as tight as ever with 4 drivers winning at least one race each and he top 5 spots separated by just 60 points (each win earns the driver 50 points like in Indycar). Even though the Indy Lights field is thin in numbers the race for the points lead is as exciting as ever in my opinion.

To be truthful I'm surprised with the number of wins that Pigot has he's only 9 points ahead of Barbham. I know Barbham has had a specacular season as well but I would think a victory would be worth more points then that. Oh well. It's Pigot's championship to lose an Barbham's championship to win.

    Brabham.

Hawksworth should take the title in Star Mazda. From second on down, the Top 5 should be interesting. Very impressed that Sage was able to get from 21st to 3rd in the second race last week. I knew he had a podium car, but didn't think he could get there in so few laps.

It looks like mechanical failures will cost Sage the title between St. Pete and Toronto. Gotta agree with PhillyIRL, what he did to the field on Sunday starting from last was simply amazing. I want to see the incar cam of that performance.

With Dephillippi crashing, it all but hands the title over to Hawksworth. The race for 2-4 is going to be tight and competitive.

Are you sure about that? I haven't seen many races as I'm hopelessly behind with watching the Road to Indy tv show, but from what I've read it's my impression that Jack Hawksworth is winning the championship mostly because of his own strong performances and less because of the bad luck of his opponents.

Still though, the field is very strong this year with many talented racers.

Hawksworth has been dominant whenever the road turns right.

Even if Sage didn't have problems, he still probably wouldn't take the title. Hawksworth has just been too good, but Sage could still be in contention now without those failures.

Sage jumps up from 5th to 3rd in the points with two second place finishes in Edmonton and Hawksworth pulls away some more. I didn't realize how consistent Gabby Chaves has been this year. Of his 10 races, 9 have been Top 5s. Oddly, none have been better than 3rd, so he has 9 3rd-5th place finishes.

As someone said before, if Hawksworth doesn't stop his onslaught of wins the real right well be for second place. I'm really happy for Sage and Gabby but I really wish Connor would be more consistent.

I clocked Hawksworth a consistent .3 quicker than the other cars yesterday on the main straight. Stick a fork in it, championship is over.

Possible rain for today's Lights race. Vautier will make this championship interesting.

Sage follows up 2nd place yesterday with his first non oval win in the series today. He's on fire lately and has moved up to 2nd in the points standings. Hawksworth struggled today, so he Sage cut into his lead a little. I continue to be amazed with the consistency of Gabby Chaves. His best finish of the season today with a 2nd place. He has 11 Top 5s in 12 races. It will be tough for Sage to put any space between the two of them or for Connor to catch up. Sage ties Connor with 2 wins on the season. Hawksworth's 6 are more.

    Meanwhile, Vautier won in Lights.

7 points gap between Guerrieri and Vautier with 2 races to go. Should be fun to watch!

Vautier didn't disappoint and drove flawlessly.

Karam win in the rain was impressive and further bolsters the argument against Hawksworth engine advantage. Clearly it is an advantage.

What happened in usF2000 race? Leaders take each other out?

Chavez and Ardoin last lap battle in rain was epic!
