    Saavedra In For Sonoma

I didn't see a thread on it yet, so thought I'd mention it:

Sebastian Saavedra will get his second IZOD IndyCar Series outing of the year at Sonoma on August 26, after Andretti Autosport announced that they were once again pairing up with AFS Racing to field the #17 car for the Colombian.

At quick glance, it almost looked like you meant he will be an HVM driver

He's shown competetively in lights this year and was pretty good all month at Indy. Lets see if he's ready for the big show now.

His speed last year was actually pretty decent considering he was in a Conquest. I just can't cheer for the guy considering how much of a tool he comes off as.

I hope they fit the same engine in his car as he had for pole day

Good for him! I like the way they keep testing him out in IndyCar while he continues to do well in the Lights series.

So does that mean we can expect to see Katherine too? Seems like Dragon should be given first dibs on an extra engine.

There's an elephant in the room here, I just can't put my finger on it.

I'm young enough to remember the future. The past has no claim on me.
I'm old enough not to care too much about what you think of me.
But I'm young enough to remember the future. The way things ought to be."

Legge should be in for the last few races, I believe.

First of all, it was said back in May that Dragon were hopeful to get another engine before the end of the season. So maybe she gets one before Sonoma. Also, Katherine and Bourdais were at Sonoma last week testing.
    Wanker!

Yeah, I saw they tested the other day (wish I could have made it over there) but wasn't the rumor that they were hoping to get her an engine at one of the Canadian rounds?

Has anyone heard anything at all lately about if/when Dragon might get a second Chevy? You gotta wonder where AFS/Andretti is coming up with an extra engine for Saavedra if there isn't one available for Dragon, but you'd also think some sort of word would have gotten out by now if Dragon had anything lined up, and you'd think they and Chevy would know what's what by now.

Not sure if both of them testing at Sonoma necessarily means anything. It would be an insult (and display narrow, short-term thinking) to exclude Kat from any road course testing (just as it would be to exclude Bourdais from any oval testing), even if there's no engine for her to race. Kat's too classy to complain out of school, but personally I think she is getting totally screwed after having made it possible for Penske to field a team and Bourdais to get a ride, and this is in addition to her getting not one but two Lotus engines that were the lemoniest among lemons for the first four races.

At least with the Lotus she managed to squeeze out a few drops of lemonade (whereas Bourdais made a full glass), but it's got to just kill her to watch the road/street races now that they have a decent engine.

I remember reading somewhere that it was likely Dragon would see a second engine for the last three races, but I haven't seen it confirmed anywhere yet.

On the other hand, this article: http://pressdog.typepad.com/dogblog/...-bourdais.html makes note of the fact that Dragon had to pay a much higher price for their Chevy lease, so who knows what that means for Dragon's finances for the rest of the season...

Thanks for the reply, but I guess no new news. I don't think Bourdais' comment to Pressdog means a really drastic financial situation at Dragon (unless something has changed), since even after Indy when the $ figures were known, Penske planned to retain most of both crews for the one car. http://auto-racing.speedtv.com/artic...ais-and-legge/ (I'd swear I read another story with a direct quotation from JP regarding keeping both crews, but I can't find it now). I haven't heard any subsequent reports of layoffs, and excess crew would be the first thing to go if money was really tight.

I know right after Indy, they laid off one of their transporter drivers (@7BigMike on twitter), but I don't think anything else has changed... I agree, as of right now, we're in a 'no new news' situation in terms of the Dragon situation.

    We'll find out soon enough.

That's what's driving me nuts. If AFS/Andretti have things sealed up to put Saavedra in at Sonoma, I would think Jay Penske would know one way or the other by now, and some kind of word would either leak out or be announced. The silence worries me.
