Seriously, though, it appeared to me watching T&S that she lost a ton of time on her first pit stop. Anyone know if that's right and if so why?
She pitted one lap before the leaders and emerged behind Helio, then had to let through four-five other guys and in total she lost nine seconds to Carpenter in two laps before he pitted later. She was running ca. 2 secs. ahead of him before, so basically she lost around 11 seconds on her first two laps after the pitstop. And that was that.

This is nice when not having any cautions. Get a ton of post-race coverage.

Yeah, that definition makes sense, but I think a lot of people may hear that term in that specific context and relate it to Pearl Harbor kamikazes. It's really a non-issue. I just thought it was an odd analogy.

If those people think there were kamikazes at Pearl Harbor, then you should probably ignore them...

(yes, I know what you meant)

Geez, I hate to come over as some kind of a scold, and I apologize if that's how this sounds, but I believe that the only Kamikazes at Pearl Harbor were a handful of one man submarines. The Kamikaze program wasn't until late in the war when Japan was in desperate straits and short of trained pilots.

I was six months old at the time of Pearl Harbor, so, naturally, I remember it well.

No problem at all. I'm not a war buff. I knew that they started the program later in the war as a last-ditch effort but if I remember correctly, many of the pilots used their fatally-damaged planes as weapons upon "enemy targets."

Thanks. Seemed like it was more than 11 seconds she lost, but it's hard to know what's really going on with the delay in T&S.

That also didn't happen at Pearl Harbor (just one presumed but unconfirmed instance, and it wasn't Pearl Harbor where that pilot crashed, but a naval air station on the other side of the island).

Max Baer also was not an arrogant, remorseless killer as depicted in "Cinderella Man" and John Nash had neither an imaginary roommate nor phantom CIA handler as depicted in "A Beautifule Mind" (in fact, Nash remembers very little of those years at all, so Ron Howard and Akira Goldsman just made stuff up); but it sure makes a good movie, doesn't it?

It can be risky getting history lessons from Hollywood.

Push2Pass strategy is fascinating to watch. I thought drivers were using it way too early in the race. When Power used it on Newgarden, I was befuddled.

I never did read what caused Conway's problem in the last practice and qualifying, but today was another damn good run for him. Lap times were as quick as anybody and he passed a lot of cars to finish where he did.
A shame he couldn't have started closer to the front given the times he ran in the sessions where they didn't have a problem.
Better days a comin' for the Foyt team.

Fuel Pressure problems in the Saturday practice session and qualifying. A Top 5 car for sure.

And according to the team's website report they had Mike on fuel-save mode for the last two stints. Doesn't seem as if he was allowed to hang it out. Still, he passed a lot of guys who aren't Ed Carpenter types.

And in the "living-in-the-past" file, Conway was the only driver who was able to pass Hunter-Reay at Toronto.

No cautions was exhausting plus I didn't get to make as many runs to the kitchen as normal... but thank goodness for the Depends.

Race was a lot of fun to watch....

Would have been nice if it was a little longer to bring three stop / extreme fuel save two-stop strategies into the mix. I understand TV windows though... Hopefully some day it can be a little longer.

Maybe next year they could take a few of the bumps out... since as we were told several times that the new course can be left up year round.

One assumes for the snowmobile races.

Okay, in retrospect my comment sounds pretty obnoxious. Sorry.

But my disdain wasn't directed at you, it was directed at Hollywood, which routinely screws with history to try to make for a better movie, and in the process spreads misconceptions and inaccuracies that millions of Americans think are true. Ron Howard was very guilty of this in the two movies I mentioned, though he did a good job with "Apollo 13." If the actual facts don't make an interesting enough story, why not just do made-up, fictional stories! [By the way, most people also don't know this factoid: there were no Transformers at Pearl Harbor; giant transforming robots weren't perfected and introduced in the Pacific theater until 1943--another thing Michael Bay got wrong.]

Right on the money. We were in GS 11 and you could see that Sato had used his early and Helio had some left. Going into Turn 1 Sato would be right on top of HCN with HCN moving away fast going out of the turn. Apparently HCN still had some (p2p) left at the end of the race.

[QUOTE=jughead;3108399]Could Carpenter have gotten out of the way and not held up Tags when Power gapped them?

Carpenter was a moving chicaine in this race. IMHO he does not belong on a road or street course. Someone should have given him the chrome horn.
