    Sidepods

Goofy tech question: What caused the change in thinking on sidepod design in the early-mid '90s? in the '80s, the idea appeared to be to get them as low as possible, and often the cars had wide radiator inlets as a result. But then, in 1993 or so, the cars start getting taller sidepods with narrow but tall inlets instead. Was this a function of aerodynamics, cooling, packaging, or safety (more mass on the sides = better side hits)?

I thought the sidepod height was increased for safety, but I forget the year that it happened. I want to say 1996, but I could be way off.

Part of it had to be for safety, but I bet getting more air to the tunnels played a role in it as well.
"It takes a special level of incompetance to make a schedule this terrible. America is possibly the greatest country in the world overall for tracks. To make a bad schedule in America takes effort. A special kind of effort. A kind of effort that only IndyCar could come up with."

Yes It is confirm that the sidepods was increased for the safety, and it was since1993 if I don't forget.
