Thoughts With Neighbors in Suburban Denver

Movie theatre in Aurora...mass shooting during midnight showing of Dark Knight. What goes haywire in the selfish heads of those who perpetrate such crimes?

    Unbelievable.

Just reading the story. 14 dead at present, at least 50 injured.

Some kind of gas bomb AND guns?

I cannot fathom what goes on in someone's mind to do such a horrific thing...delusional, wicked, what? There just aren't words. My heart aches for all those involved...

First showing people in costume and at first they thought this guy dressed in black and wearing a riot helmet was part of the show. As well armed as he was firing 50-60 shots in a crowded movie theater we will be lucky if this holds at 12.

Yep. There's a lot that suggests this wasn't someone just flipping a cog; this was planned.

At least the SOB was caught alive.

Guy had 3 guns, bullet proof vest and gas mask. Could conclude he didn't want to die with the protection when in the past these situations usually ended with the shooter committing suicide.

Apparently, a 3 month and a 6 year old were at the movie and were victims of the shooting. WTF were kids at those ages doing at a midnight movie and a PG-13 one? Shame on the parents, IMO.

Now they have reports that it wasn't a gas mask but a facsimile of the apparatus that the Bain character in the movie wore on his face.

Edit: Right after that NBC said they were doing their best to screen out the folks who weren't actually there and more legit witness continue to describe it as a gas mask.

    One victim identified.

Apparently she was a sports writer who covered hockey primarily. Creepy story definitely worth reading.

If he really threw tear gas grenades into the crowd I have a hard time believing it wasn't a real gas mask.

Wow, that is very Final Destination-ish.

Apparently, the suspect's apartment is booby trapped.

hopelssness compounded with despair,, that age group has had everything that appeared attainable shoved distantly out of reach,, not an excuse,, but most likely the seed of such insanity

This is shocking and very sad and tragic. A couple of unrelated thoughts spring to mind.

It bothers me that this guy will probably get off on an insanity defense, he certainly must be wacko to do such a thing.

Columbine is just 20 miles away in a different suburb of Denver. Is there something in the water?

My sister moved to Littleton in the 70's, her kids attended Columbine (prior to the massacre). Something is nagging in the back of my head about Aurora, maybe a niece or nephew lives there, not sure, but it's something..

Also, Fox News reporting that the suspect has sophisticated explosives in his apartment. God only knows what he would have done if he was able to leave the movie theatre.

Just saw on Fox News that Bloomberg wants gun control enacted immediately. Have they found a motive for this yet?

From what I heard reported this morning (probably 5:00 am, could be very inaccurate) they arrested him in the parking lot and he didn't put up a fight or try to flee the scene. I don't think he had any other plans.

Mayor Bloomberg of New York? Does New York not already have a ban on firearms of any kind? Or are you saying that the mayor of New York wants to enact gun control laws in Colorado?

Apparently his mother, when interviewed, said she was not surprised and that they likely had the right guy. Trying to get my head around that.
