    Burnouts, celebrations, traditions and respect

... do these NASCAR boys have respect for the track?

    Just checking.

Looks odd to see them on the curb though, IMO.

    I'll say it......

Burnouts and doughnuts do not belong at IMS.

You're not supposed to hug the Queen of England, you're not supposed mark up the track.

    There. I feel better.

Other than that, I watched the last half of the race and it was a pretty good show.

That burnout crap needs to end. I think after Saturday and Sunday's "celebrations", they're going to have to repave the dang track.

Not just the track, but the bricks...

Nice job by Jimmie! He was the class of the field. As a longtime lover of IMS, it was sad that there were not more there to see it.

I don't care who or where. It's tacky and played.

No race thread? I guess all the people not in the stands were not following on the computer either.

I watched the whole race -- I've seen better -- seen worse. Best part about it is they let the last green flag run play itself out to the end. No bogus cautions. Jimmy Johnson was the class of the field and finished with the gap he earned

I feel the same way with spraying of liquids (ANY kind) and confetti in Victory Lane.

Since this is a complaint thread, here is mine. Do away with post race interviews.

I'll take any of the above over the "kissing the bricks" nonsense, that they have to pay the team to do ($30k?)

I don't think they belong anywhere. I'm a firm believer in what Bear Bryant told his players to do when they scored a touchdown ... "act like you've been there before."

It made me sick when he did that burnout on the bricks.

    Besides I hate burnouts anyway.

I love victory celebrations and don't mind burnouts at all. And kissing the bricks is a cool tradition.

    Way to go JJ!!!!
After years of fighting and a split, guess what, we are all IndyCar

October will always be a sad racing month for me. RIP Greg and Dan. You both were great and we miss you.

Owners could, and should, control that.

I watched a bunch of pre-race shows and all I heard was guys speaking well of the track.

Why do Indycar drivers kiss the bricks?
Isn't that something that was started by the heathens of Nascar?

  21. #21
Kissing the bricks. Climbing the fence. Doing burnouts.

    Stupid is as stupid does.

)But it sure was nice to turn on the TV and see racing. When oh when are the Indy Car guys gonna figure that out? Stock cars at Indy? It just turns my stomach. But the Indy car guys let it happen..in fact they opened the door and invited them in. And now we have dirty donut marks insulting what was once hallowed ground.(

That burnout today was WAY to close to the bricks
All roads lead to Indy except for State Road 39 which goes to Martinsville.

who are you kidding? the burnout today was ON the bricks. Johnson has done this every time he's won there, and nobody has yet called him out on it. If he had respect for the track, then he would take his backyard teenage hick burnout BS somewhere else on the track. Wehn post-win burnouts were Dan Wheldon's thing, even he took his car to turn 4 to do his donuts after the 500 in 2005.

You don't lay rubber down on the bricks. end of story.

They yap all day Friday, Saturday, and Sunday morning during prerace about how they " have so much respect for the place," but every winner pulls that stunt after they win.

For the record, I don't like it by anyone anywhere.

I wonder if the winner of a "Drifting" contest celebrates by driving straight down the track?

Listen to Sirius and the callers say all the time that they dont like Indy because you cant see all the way around.

They would know best; some of them have been NASCAR fans for almost 10 years now
