Every race I run in is in preparation for the Indianapolis 500. Indy is the most important thing in my life. It is what I live for. - Al Unser Jr.
Everything I ever wanted in my life, I found inside the walls of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. - Eddie Sachs.
The MS Paint Baltimore thread seemed to lead to a properly drawn map. INDYCAR also had professional looking course drawings at the Baltimore presentation. My guess is that Sonoma has proper layout art. This was from the SPEED.com story:

while the MS Paint thing was kinda dorky, it was very easy to see and understand

IMO good changes, but let's stop using MS Paint.
We wonder why IndyCar is not taken seriously...

Sounds kinda catchy...

Nice to see they are at least trying to better the tracks
Indy, Cleveland, Mid-Ohio, Pocono, Michigan, Long Beach, Watkins Glen, Kentucky, IRP - 49
Like the fact that they lengthened teh straight bfore the pit entrance hairpin. Not sure why they didn't do this from teh beginning?!?!?! Andy they keep tweaking the corners of Turn 7....hope they eventually figure it out. LOL

Turn 7 will go from a long right hander to a 180 degree hairpin.
The turn 9 chicane will be widened 10 feet on drivers left and 50 feet total on exit
The run to turn 11 will be lengthened 200 feet
Seeing this along with GoPro's three year deal is telling me this race is going nowhere

I would prefer if they used the Nascar layout for turn 11 that way they have more room to try to do a dive down the side.
I just saw that so my bad
Reasoning behind not using the full hairpin is that the FIA says the cars would be going too fast into turn 1 if they used the full run. Now I don't think they'll be going too much slower this year, but perhaps Cindric, Penske and co were able to stretch that straight as far as physically allowable.

Why don't they freakin use the actual hairpin?!?
Hopefully this spices up Sonoma, after all the racing cant get any worse than what's it been. BUT as I said, Sonoma is a very tough circuit, so I can live with one race like that.
Could be wrong but it appears as if somebody is actually using their head and they will actually use the hairpin instead of that laughable embarrassment of a turn 11 they've been using. Who does that? You have a track thats hard enough to make a pass on, you take away the one solid place they have (hairpin) and cut it in half? Now that I think of it, that might actually have been just as dumb as the Baltimore chicane. There had to be a reason they did that, I cant imagine somebody being that dumb to do that with turn 11.
