Hi all, I'm a long time reader, first time poster. Can anyone offer advice on the best vantage points at Mid-Ohio to watch the race? We're making the trip this weekend.
Hi all, I'm a long time reader, first time poster. Can anyone offer advice on the best vantage points at Mid-Ohio to watch the race? We're making the trip this weekend.
Keyhole, Madness, Thunder Valley
Keyhole, Esses. Take time Saturday to explore and see what you like. the ALMS race is a good time to do that for what you'll see Sunday. There are great views everywhere.
The best is to get there Friday or Saturday when there are fewer people and try out different spots and see what you like the best.
If you like speed and acceleration try the infield keyhole side of the bridge and see them accelerate around T1, but can also see them scream down the backstretch.
If you like technical sections, sit somewhere near Madness to see them under heavy breaking, climb the hill turn and accelerate.
Thunder Valley is another favorite. If you have a paddock pass, watch some of the action from the second level of the garages.
Overall, lots of good places to see racing action at Mid-Ohio.
Indyjim. Are you camping?
"I think there's only so many people that can take care of themselves, and can take care of other people. And the rest of the people … they're useful in terms of compost for the whole planet, you know." - Bill Murray
Esses, Esses, Esses. But seriously walk around the track and test different vantage points until you find the one you like.

If you are planning on the esses on race day, do yourself a favor and get up early to set your chairs up there. I'm talking 6:30 am. No one has messed with ours in 8 years of attending. If you wait until race time, you'll be at the bottom of the hill. Also, throw a couple blocks of wood in your bag. If you are on the hill, throw those under the front legs of your chair to counter the angle of the hill. It sounds silly, but, I've found it is much more comfortable for a long day of sitting!
Thanks for all the feedback! Keep it coming if you have more. I’ve got an 11-year-old budding Indycar fan (HUGE RHR fan) and want to show him a good time. We will wander around Saturday after the autograph session and then pick a spot for Sunday. No, we’re not camping. Yes, we will have a Paddock pass. I hadn’t even thought about bringing chairs (or blocks of wood). Thanks for the tips!
You luck out Jim... RHR is not one of the Friday drivers in the autograph session... he's on Saturday. Have you checked out the Mid Ohio website as well?IZOD IndyCar Series drivers will be penning their signatures on apparel, programs and more from 4:15 – 5:15 p.m. on Friday (Group 1) and 2:45 - 3:45 p.m. on Saturday (Group 2). The American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patron hosts its autograph session in the upper paddock from 10:45 - 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, just a few hours before the race. Every American Le Mans Series driver is available for autographs and photos for all fans (paddock pass required). The Pirelli World Challenge drivers will also be signing autographs on Saturday between noon and 1 p.m. at the Optima Battery display located in the infield.

Still seeking advice... this time on any traffic issues heading up to Mid-Ohio. I need to be there by a certain time tomorrow. Has anyone heard of construction or anything that will slow us down coming up from Indy?
