I saw a lot of trains when I was a youngster, and I was never that excited!
We lived a block from railroad tracks.
    Have a very blessed day!

I live about a mile from the tracks......far enough away that the sound is muted but I can still hear the wheels clack over each section and the horn as they approach the road crossing......during a snow storm the sound of the horn is a muted pitch and different, and I do enjoy it.....granted I'm not a block away but it's part of the fabric of this area.....I'd really miss not hearing a train in the distance yet I doubt I'd ever get as excited at this guy, however passion is a good thing and I'm glad he's found his.

One of the things I used to like about my neighborhood is its close enough to two sets of railroad tracks that we used to get a lot of horns... but, alas, beautiful Olathe, Kansas reached an agreement with the BNSF and the Feds for "quiet zones." So no more train horns, just rumbles.

In 1991-92 I lived next to a train yard in Emporia, Kansas. Took about a month to get used to the sound of trains coming right through the house (no, not literally, but it sure seemed like it). My first tornado season in town I remember waking up during storms to the noise praying "be a train, be a train, be a train" and going back to sleep when the horn finally blew.

I looked at an apartment in Berkeley. Decent location and quiet. What I failed to find out was the BART track was immediately behind the building which would shake with the train would go by. Eventually got use to it.

We now live near the track here in Fishers. Just the Fair Train and the weekend dinner trains run on this track. Not so bad. Just early evening, then quiet again through the nights and mornings.

I lived in the age of steam. The intersection of Chicago Avenue and Halsted Street was a bridge over railroad tracks, sort of a railroad yard. You could stand on the bridge and look right down the stack as the engine went by.

OT--Sort of. Here is a guy that put on a show on stages. All he had was a microphone, and his mouth. The hunter going by train.

I'm glad there isn't a video of him making this video because I can only imagine what he was doing with his non-camera hand.

Oh, and "Listen to that bell...listen to that bell!!" STFU AND WE CAN HEAR IT!!!!

Exactly. People that have more time on their hands. Imagine going with this guy to Comic-Con.

I'm guessing that was the old coach yard for Union Station...pretty close to the Trib's Freedom Printing complex, isn't it...

Yeah, the guy's a little whacked, but those are two very nice locomotives...

And the second one is extremely rare...only a handful still survive...

Now if it was me filming that, I'd just shut up and record the sound of the engines...

But then, I'm a train geek...last year I took my wife to Bailey Yard during our trip to Nebraska...

I agree with everything you say, and this guy will probably regret not being able to hear the train itself over his overzealous piehole, but I started laughing (at him maybe?? ) and couldn't stop. He certainly loves his trains and if you visit him in mom's basement you should see the train set he has down there.

You know, watching the video for a second time (those are beautiful locos and, did I mention, I'm a train geek ) I'm thinking maybe the guy has some sort of mental disability...there's a kid (well, he's younger than me, so...) that hangs out at our public library and kind of has the same type of speech patterns...I don't know...

    Asperger's.

The condo I lived in when I first moved back to Edmonton had my bedroom facing the CN Rail main line and if a train derailed it'd end up in the parking lot.

When I was in college in DeKalb, Illinois, one year I live in an apartment 50 yards from the then Chicago & North Western (now UP) double track mainline out of Chicago to Omaha...

To say that things in the apartment shaked would be an understatement...

And apparently, there are a lot of trains that go from Chicago to Omaha and Omaha and back...

Of course it came in real handy when me and my mates were making a film for our TV class...the ending had a guy getting hit by a train...

After many hours shooting stuff elsewhere, everyone was ready to head home...

"How long until a train comes by" was asked by one on the crew...

My reply..."We've only been here 5 minutes...you'll be out of here it 10"...

Well, that would take the air out of my balloon.....I'm not big on making fun of those who have struggles........now I really don't want to watch it in case you're correct.

Yes, Chicago Tribune Freedom Center is just east of that intersection. And, what used to be Montgomery Ward warehouse and store was east of that.

At least we know that woman wasn't his wife... she didn't throw herself in front of the train.
