It costs a whole hell of alot more to ring 700hp out a 2.2L engine than it does out a 2.65L or 3L engine so I'm not really sure what they are saving.

The layout remained completely identical in 2006. It was fully repaved and smoothed out where patches were used. One of the numerous reasons it's hard to compare lap times year to year as many of the street and road circuits they run on have not been paved in decades which means there in theory slower now than they were then and vice versa.

Jonesing for a high speed oval to see what the DW 12 has in it now later in the season.

Looking at Pole times for Grand-Am DP, GT and ALMS LMP1, LMP2, GT1, GT2 at Mid-Ohio since 2001, it appears that the track sped up by 4.5% between 2006 and 2007, but since then it has slowed down by 2.5%, meaning that the track is 2.0% faster now than it was pre-2007. By my estimation then, the IndyCar pole time this year is equivalent to a 1:06.96 in pre-2007 Mid-Ohio lap times.

Obviously, this kind of analysis has a lot of sources of error in it, but I think it gives a reasonable comparison time.

They re-paved the track recently. I'm guessing that has a lot to do with it.

sorry, but nothing fundamentally changed between 1939 and 1945.

in 1939 the main villain was Hitler. Yes in 1945 he was dead and defeated, but the new villain arised -Stalin. Evil just changed its apperance but it was still there.

Nothing changed for thousands of years really. We still live on the ashes of the roman empire in every sense.

Pagenaud holds the outright and unofficial lap record at Mid-Ohio - a 1:03.7 in a DP01.

The DW12 is significantly slower than that.
