    Very sad.

I can't help but wonder if going out like Marilyn was going through Whitney Houston's mind that day.

I saw the title and thought... "Crap not again!"

Although I never saw what others saw in her, even though I was still a kid back then I thought she was rather puffy.

In the age of censorship, she was a commodity.....now if that other lass wasn't decapitated in a traffic accident as they were so free to admit, she may have been second fiddle.......help me here, who was it? Jane somebody.........WTH....brain fart..........

EDIT ---Mansfield, Jane Mansfield, as I recall she died in an vehicular accident in the fog when her car rear ended a tractor trailer back in the day.......but she was da bomb from the fotos I've seen.

It happened close to New Orleans in an early morning thick-as-soup fog. I don't remember if the truck had the proper clearance lights or not, or if it was stopped on the roadway...the decapitation rumor was started by someone who mistook one of Mansfield's wigs for her head.

Jayne's daughter, Mariska Hargitay, was asleep in the back seat of the car and was injured severely.

Marilyn Monroe died on my 8th birthday, August 5, 1962. However, Neil Armstrong, Lucille Ball and Robert Taylor were all born on August 5th...

One of Jayne's legacies is the underride guard know as the "Mansfield Bar" the little bar that hanging down on the back of semi-trailers.

Another is actress Mariska Hargitay, who was asleep in the back seat of the car when her mom was killed

I was in Boy Scout camp.
We used to debate Marilyn versus Jayne versus Bridgett all the time.

Bridgett without a doubt... Like Mary Ann over Ginger and Bailey over Jennifer.

I thought I read someplace where Mansfield's accident was due to a truck fogging for bugs or something? My Dad and I were headed to the donut store when we heard it on the radio.

I always thought one of the most sexy scenes in a movie was when, in "Seven Year Itch," she stood above those subway gratings.

I wasn't quite 12 and was with my dad at the Nashville Speedway for a NASCAR race. Heard it over the radio. Apparently she was an underrated actress. But given the Hollywood way of doing things, her amount of talent didn't matter.

No, I'd have to look up who won at Nashville that day.

Wanna know what's wrong with NASCAR? They've gone from Junior Johnson to Jimmie Johnson.

Wanna know what's wrong with IndyCar? It's gone from dirt ovals to street races.

We all know that in these "Ginger or Mary Ann" debates, the correct answer is "Ginger AND Mary Ann...."!

Marylin Monroe was a star, which is different from just an actor or just being beautiful. It's something else. Some stars burn out faster than others.

BTW: If I had to make a choice in that contest, it would be Bardot. No contest. But she didn't have whatever it was that Marylin had, I'll grant you that.

True. The accident occurred in a swampland area just east of Lake Ponchartrain. The highway, US 90, twisted and turned: humidity was so high that the fog from the truck obscured the semi behind it. Also, it appears that the Mansfield car was speeding...it was torn up so badly that officials originally thought it was a convertible.

Mariska's face was scarred in the accident.

If Mariska's face is scarred all women should be so lucky. I think she looks very pretty in that picture. As for Marilyn, I was 12 when she died. I always thought that some of her pictures were not very pretty, but some others were hot as could be. But neither her nor Jayne were my cup of tea, that was Bardot.
