Wanna know what's wrong with NASCAR? They've gone from Junior Johnson to Jimmie Johnson.

Wanna know what's wrong with IndyCar? It's gone from dirt ovals to street races.

At Bloomington last night, my aging eyes couldn't tell who won. It was quite close, but Danny Holtsclaw, the racing insurance salesman, edged Brady Short for the win. 18 sprinters.

Gas City picked up a few USAC guys after their Michigan race was rained out. Bryan Clauson, probably the only Indy 500 starter who has won at Gas City, was the winner. 28 cars.

TONY STEWART TOPS FORTY-SEVEN CAR FIELD IN URC/PATRIOT 360 SPRINT CHALLENGE FRIDAY NIGHT AT BLACK ROCK SPEEDWAY
DUNDEE, NY . . . . . Black Rock Speedway Promoter Dean Hoag defied Mother Nature and every weather forecast during the day and successfully completed the URC/Patriot 360 Sprint Challenge with NASCAR star Tony Stewart taking the victory. With a greater then 70% chance of rain all day, Hoag beat all odds to present a thrilling show for the fans. A strong field of forty-seven sprints cars took part in the co-sanctioned United Racing Company and Patriot Sprint Tour event. Tony Stewart drew the pole starting position in the 25 lap feature event but failed to lead every lap. Oley, PA driver Randy “the wild, wild, West” took the lead from Stewart at the start of the event and held the lead for the first seven laps. After two lead changes on lap eight, Stewart took the top spot and went on to victory, collecting $4,000 for the victory.

25 LAP FEATURE FINISH: $4,000 Tony Stewart, Randy West, Jason Barney, Davie Franek, Justin Barger, Tommy Wickam, Dylan Swienik, Ed Aikin, Scott Kreutter, Don Ademczyk, George Suprick, Bryan Howland, Josh Weller, Kevin Darling, Art Liedl, Tracy Potter, Chad Trout, Ryan Linder, Dan Mazy, Patrick Vigneault, Bobby Breen, Chuck Hebing, Jonathan Swanson, Kramer Williamson, Glenn Styres.

I saw Jack Hewitt win at Gas City during the 1999 NAMARS Triple Crown event. Also, J.J. Yeley won a few there including the 2003 Indiana Sprintweek event.

Good topic. See if I can come up with some more.

    1. You're younger than me and remember stuff really good.

    2. You keep better records than me.

    3. I may well have been at Gas City that night.

Brian Olsen won at Salem tonight with winged sprinters tackling the high banks.

But maybe the bigger news was Brian Gerster's quick time at 13.957 seconds. That translates to 143 + mph, folks.

Chris Buescher Takes Late Lead at Berlin Raceway for
Third ARCA Racing Series Win of 2012

(MARNE, Mich.) - Over the first 160 laps at Berlin Raceway, the story centered on just how long the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards field could stay green.

At the end, the story was a familiar one, as Chris Buescher drove to another short track victory in the Berlin ARCA 200 presented by Hantz Group. The win is his third of 2012 and the eighth of his career, and gives him a sweep of the series' Michigan events after a superspeedway win at Michigan International Speedway two months ago.

Buescher (No. 17 Roulo Brothers Racing Ford) led the final 17 laps and 40 overall in a race that featured just two cautions for 14 laps, and none until Lap 161 - with just under 20 percent of the race remaining. Buescher passed Erik Jones (No. 55 Paragon Corvette Reproductions/CG Financial Services Chevrolet) on Lap 184 to make his final move to the front, and he extended his advantage to a 2.739-second victory margin.

    From motorracingnetwork.com

Donny Lia darted into the lead with 21 laps to go and pulled away to win the Budweiser King of Beers 150 at Thompson International Speedway on Thursday night.

It marked the 16th career win and third Thompson victory for the two-time tour champion from Jericho, N.Y.

Lia, who started ninth on the grid in the No. 4 Mystic Missile Racing Dodge, initially challenged pole-sitter Mike Stefanik for the lead on Lap 59. Stefanik battled back, however, to regain the lead and stay out front to the midway point of the race.

Lia, meanwhile, lost a lap to the leaders due to a problem with a lug nut during a pit stop. He gained the lap back as the beneficiary during a caution on Lap 83. Lia steadily worked his way forward from there. He was up to sixth by Lap 95 and moved by Todd Szegedy for second on Lap 108. Lia moved by Ron Silk for the lead on Lap 129 and set sail for the finish.

Silk held off Doug Coby for second. Ted Christopher, who was penalized for aggressive driving and sent to the back of the pack on Lap 84, rebounded to finish fourth. Stefanik was fifth. Rounding out the top 10 were Rowan Pennink, Jimmy Blewett, Bobby Santos, Ron Yuhas Jr. and Szegedy.

With his podium finish, Coby extended his streak of consecutive podium finishes to seven and maintained his lead in the championship standings.

For Lia, his two previous wins at Thompson came in 2007 and 2009, his title seasons. With this win, he secured a locked-in starting position for the inaugural UNOH Battle at the Beach during 2013 Speedweeks on a temporary short track at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway.

The Budweiser King of Beers 150 marked the first race in the second half of the tour schedule. It was the second of four tour events at Thompson this season and the 118th visit by the tour there. The tour returns to Thompson for the Town Fair Tire Northern 75/UNOH Showdown on Sept. 9 and for the season finale on Oct. 14. In the meantime, the next event on the tour schedule is the UNOH Perfect Storm 150 at Bristol Motor Speedway on Aug. 22.
