    Another weekend is at hand

Tough choices this week. Friday in Indiana: Bloomington or Gas City, both running a regular show.

Saturday: Lincoln Park or L'burg. Both paying $3000 to win. LPS will be an MSCS deal and the 'burg is having the Dick Gaines Memorial.

And, of course, there are other choices with any kind of cars you wish to see.

Wanna know what's wrong with NASCAR? They've gone from Junior Johnson to Jimmie Johnson.

Wanna know what's wrong with IndyCar? It's gone from dirt ovals to street races.

Used to be Bloomington Friday, Paragon Saturday, and Kokomo Sunday - a very efficient (and most times profitable) weekend of competitive, economical, and fun wingless sprint car racing.

I will be doing a triple-header this weekend. Three different types of open wheel cars. Three different sanctioning bodies. Winged and non-winged. Dirt and pavement. 1/4 mile, 1 mile, and 1/2 mile tracks. Nighttime race and daytime races. Quite a variety, I must say!

Friday - POWRi Midgets at Lincoln, IL
Saturday - USAC Silver Crown at Springfield, IL
Sunday - MSR Xtreme Sprints at Winchester, IN

Springfield is the place to be! High of about 80 and no chance to rain, which is just perfect after the blast furnace of a summer we've had.

I'm thinking about 22 or 23 at the most. Pretty disappointing, but hopefully the racing is good.

Agree ... those were the days, sometimes Putnamville/Lawrenceburg Saturdays and Haubstadt Sundays.

27 sprinters at Bloomington with Jon Stanbrough winning. Feature over at 10 p.m. Stanbrough was quite chatty--for him. Grandson had a great time and didn't get on Liz's nerves once.

At Gas City, 25 sprints showed up and Robert Ballou won with his new car.

Even though lapped traffic got in Brian Tyler's way and kept from making a good run at AJ Fike in the closing laps, a place like Springfield really needs more than 20 cars to put on a great show.

On the upside, attendance seemed up a bit and the median age seems to be trending downward (or I'm just getting old).
