    I Should Know This, But...

...can you help me out? How does the race points system work? In other words, how many points for first, second, etc.

The Indy Car site sure leaves a lot to be desired. You'd think they'd make it as intuitive as possible and show important/interesting items up-front and very clearly. Maybe it's just me, but I looked around the site pretty good and I didn't see anything showcasing the points formula.

Maybe I looked in the wrong place(s) but why should it be that hard? Also, if I'm not mistaken, they recently reworked the Schedule to show all the races. Before, at least on my computer, when you went to Schedule they only showed past races and the current one...not the full schedule.

Oh, well...just trying to get a handle on what the drivers chasing Power have to do to be in contention come Fontana. If I know the points formula I could see if it's realistic to think -- based on contenders finishes at Baltimore -- if the Championship might be determined at Auto Club Speedway.

That surely would be a nice thing, adding more drama to an already (intrinsically) dramatic race.

    50, 40, 35, 32, 30, 28, 26, 24, 22, 20, 18, 16, 15, 14, 13, 12 for the next few places, then 10 for a few places. I think 5 if you show up but don't race for one reason or another.

Something like this. Plus a point for pole and a point for fastest race lap I think.

    Thanks for the info, but...

...the bigger question is: where on the official Indy Car would one find the same information? The site should have an easy, obvious link to the nuts & bolts of the series including the points formula. I think the old Indy Cars sites had some pretty good links to tech stuff, even basic info such as overviews of the machines, tires, engines, etc. Again, maybe I'm just not seeing this info on the site for some reason, but the site should cover all the bases for novice fans and lifers (like me). If it's on the site, fine, but there's no reason someone should have to hunt down the site for something so basic, or petition an Indy Car forum for the answer.

You make a very good point. I though, hey, I'll see how NASCAR does it. Guess what, you can't find it unless you search the site. It's in an old news story.

    Good luck finding it

So, INDYCAR is not alone on this one. I 100% agree it should be on the http://www.indycar.com/Drivers.aspx page. They can just create a link at the top to "How points are awarded..." and be done with it.
