Well, just looked at the weather radar for Richmond. Not looking good. If, could it be an afternoon race tomorrow?

It should clear out. I'm 3 miles west of the track and its still raining. Should end soon. RIR dries quick!

I predict 1/2 hour until the dryers come out. Then there is a window before smaller nuisance showers get here, I doubt they will play a factor. but its all pulling to the northeaast real fast. Much cooler air behind it. 65 degrees right now.
rain stopped
Its dog green sector Omaha beach for now. Private Ryan is on.
pack it in folks. This thing won't get started tonight.
Competition caution is as far as we'll get. Brright sun and 80 degrees tomorrow with a green track should make the setups a challenge.
I wouldn't have thought it earlier, but it may go the distance.

I must have been napping. How did Stewart go a lap down?
Edit: OK, I napped again. How'd he get to 5th?
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in one pretty and well preserved piece, but to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, worn out and defiantly shouting "Wow, what a ride!!!". :D
HOLY CRAP Jeff Gordon has raced his way into the chase. HOLY FREAKIN CRAP
Way to go JEFFY
Bizarre bizarre race with all of the rain and all the pit strategies. Denny hamlin was the class of the field and finished 18th, just crazy.
Just happy that Kahne made it in, and very happy to see all four HMS cars in.![]()

So while Hamlin is winning in the team car, what is wrong with Kyle Busch? Can we please stop comparing his driving ability to Dale Earnhardt Sr. now?
The failure to tighten all the lug nuts did not help, either.

Interesting show, it had it all... And some wonder
why "Jeff and Team" are champions... Carl,,, like me,
wants to see the "Best of the Best" succeed... The "real"
open wheel boys but on a show last night... Outstanding...
Rick Hendrick is a master, for me, much better than
Penske, as Rick,,, made it all himself,,, no inheritance
involved in his success... Talk about a "visionary",
and an organizer, what a master... But sadly, he has
paid the ultimate price...
Great Job,,, Unser Dog,,, Great Job Reporting da
weather,,, I didn't think the race had a chance, but
did perdict, if Jeff had a chance, it had to be a full
race, all laps run,,,

In this one race that is true, however, Kyle missing the Chase was not the result of one bad finish. I think the original question dealt more with the number of wins in the year and not the fact that Kyle finished 3 pts behind Jeff in the wild card.
So why did Hamlin have a better year than KB in similar equipment? My guess is that his head is on straighter and he has fewer distractions.
No, Richmond came down to a bad pit call... the entire season is what I am talking about. He is just not as quick as his teammate right now. Unimpressive behind the wheel really as well. I think his brother getting fired and his one race suspension last year has messed with his head.
I rarely get much out of Kyle Petty's comments, but he captured Kyle Busch's shortcoming very well when he compared him to Tony Stewart. Paraphrasing, "When the chips are down, Tony Stewart is a team leader, Kyle Busch is just a driver."
Listen to the difference on the radio when things go wrong for Stewart, as opposed to Ky Busch.
43 -- Joe Gosek -- ALTA Team Scandia -- Lola/Ford
For Kyle's team with what was at stake, you shouldn't be that off...
As for Stewart, I can recall many times that Zippy had to reign him in with his anger and attitude as a driver. Now that he is a "owner", and much older, and maybe paying some bills, he has slightly matured. Yes, how intelligent. Tony actually is the team leader/owner and Kyle is hired as a driver. Coach and JR are supposed to handle the other things.
Some race horses are always tempermental.
Ignorant men marvel at extraordinary things. Intelligent men admire simple things.
Listen to the difference on the radio when things go wrong for Stewart, as opposed to Ky Busch. The point is when Stewart the driver is not having a good day, he tries to pick the team up. History shows Kyle is not capable of doing that.
After watching the younger Busch totally brush-off Joe Gibbs' critical input before exiting the car after the race, I think I'd be looking to rid myself of the child if I were the boss.
Kyle Busch is stuffed-full of raw talent, but I don't believe he's ever going to realize his potential. And, worse, I think he may end-up hurting someone else trying to prove that very fact.
I'm willing to cut Kyle some slack ... his "attitude" has improved, and at least now he knows it is better to walk away from the cameras than to say something he may later regret. In addition, not making the chase is a huge blow, to climb out of a race car and be expected to act as if it doesn't affect him is just not possible for almost anyone. Missing the Chase is a blow to his ego, and a direct hit on his pocketbook. I'd venture to guess he just saw several millions of dollars over the next few years go up in flames by missing the chase. Hard not to understand that he was VERY upset with that loss.
Agreed.
Showing more restraint especially in the heat of battle.
One of my top 10 exhibitions of restraint at an interview:
I recall in 2000 or 2001 Alex Zinardi was on the way out of F1 and as a spectator made the error of being accessible to Paul Paige at a CART event who immediately shoved a microphone in his face and exhuberantly started quizzing him about a possible return to CART.
"Yes, back to the little world of CART" was about all Alex could muster, with a forced smile and red face.
