Growing up we made yearly trips to visit family in West Virginia and were brought up on pepperoni rolls. My late aunt Gene made the best ones. Years passed and I forgot all about these things until I looked them up on line a few years ago. As it turns out pepperoni rolls are sort of a West Virginia thing as there were many Italian immigrants who settled in the area.
While I was just in Fairmont for the funeral of another aunt I was able to take in the pepperoni "buns" from Colasessanos--a legendary eatery in the area known for this regional dish.

I highly recommend them if you're in the area or want to order them online. You can make them on your own but its important to get really good pepperoni
