why not run iroc on the daytona and indy road courses?

this thought occured to me at 4 am last sunday watching the rolex.

seems to be a simple thing to do.

They have the IROC races at the tracks that Nascar is attending on a particular weekend and they couldn't change the track from oval to road race spec very easily. The series is catering to the Nascar drivers so any chance of these races being moved is nill. Gee Jeffy won't even run in the series this year because he said he doesn't have time and they're at the tracks where he is that particular weekend. Not like he has logistical problems or anything.

Well now you are being ridiculous....the Nascar contingent dosen't particularly like road courses and that would take them out of their element. They like things just fine the way they are, thank you very much.
I recall Dale Earnhardt explaing once how the IROC cars were so 'different' from 'real' stock cars that it gave the Nascar guys no advantage what so ever over the others drivers.
So let's keep things on the up and up and leave well enough alone.

**** right they're different, which is why IROC is the only 'stock ' car race I ever attend.

For your information, the IROC cars are actually Busch chassis modified for the series bodies with detuned 358ci motors in them.

The first year, when IROC ran Porsches, they DID run the road course at Daytona. They ran the oval when they went to Camaros.

It takes about 8 hours to convert Daytona from oval to road course. But, of course, IROC currently is run on the Friday before the Daytona 500, and the infield is populated at that time, so use of the road course is not possible.

Bill France, Jr prefers stockcars on stockcar tracks for his support series... not to mention keep his fans interested & his drivers competitive.

How about Watkins Glen and Sonoma, then.

I know that into the 80's the IROC series ran at tracks like Watkins Glen, Mid-Ohio and others.

Of course, with the IRL guys being full-time oval track racers the NASCAR guys just might be in for a bit more of a challenge this year!

sure the chassis are the same, but those firebirds actually look like firebirds.
