    DW not ready to retire?

Report at NASCAR.com about Darrell Waltrip wanting to race a few times to keep his license current. . .

Thanks, rev, for posting a link to this on the IRL board. Maybe this will awaken some people to the fact that this forum actually has a NASCAR board.

Darrell was a great racer, one of NASCAR's all time best. It was too bad he had to have his last few years of racing full of backermarker finishings - I bet, though, he wouldn't do too bad he came back for a race or two.

DW also does a great job as an announcer. I didn't actually see it, but I heard about the super soaker trick he played on Jeff Hammond at the Coca-cola 600. Anybody watch and actually see that?

I've seen too many bad things come from these "comebacks" for me to accept them as anything other than very bad ideas. If DW wants to do some racing, let him do it in a Legends car.

I think it was more of an off-hand comment.

Fox needs to find something to keep DW going in the off part of the schedule. Not racing.

They could have him do PR tours, like visiting affiliates, stockholder meetings, that kind of thing. Have him show up at some races and sign autographs. Film material for use next year. Make a spot for him on their Totally NASCAR show. Get his a gig on Fox Sports Radio. Not racing.

I could see DW do the races at bristol and m'ville and richmond. But as far as the bigger tracks,I think DW would be at the back of the pack. I think DW is a little spooked at high speeds.
