The Latest Saga of Robbie Gordon and the #31

Jayski is reporting that Robbie Gordon may not be in the #31 this weekend at Martinsville, and the driver may be someone unexpected. Robbie didn't make a great impression by missing the last race, and he has a prior committment to run an off-road race in a few weeks anyway.

I'm not sold on the idea that Robbie will be back with RCR next season.

.....silly season is great isn't it?!? You're correct though, as I posted in the Mayfield thread, Jeremy is now be heavily courted by Richard Childress.

This is the only decent ride currently available that he'd even have a shot at being competitive in.

Looks like the 'Robby Gordon to IRL' rumors could be surfacing again!!
My first Indy 500 was 1973, haven't missed one since 1981. To date I have attended 35 Indy 500's, and probably 100 or so other IndyCar races (CART & IRL).

Other than the twice a year "fish out of water" specials at Sonoma and Watkins Glen, I see nothing in Mr. Gordon's resume that would make one think that he should be in a NASCAR car.

I think that Robbie has proven that, aside from road courses, he can't cut it in NASCAR. I wish these open wheelers would stay in open wheel.

I guess that means no Jeff Gordon or Tony Stewart, or Ryan Newman anymore. Just 3 of the best drivers to come into Nascar for a while. Nah, they don't need to be there.

Actually I was referring to CART or IRL drivers (Robbie Gordon and Scott Pruett) I don't recall ever seeing Jeff Gordon or Ryan "Crash" Newman in an Indy Car.

this needs a update cause I read on Nascar.com that Robby is going to be in the 31 car for next year. And will be a three car team.

true he will be part of RCR - no guarantees of how long. Perhaps he will not blow this one.

I'm not a big Robbie Gordon fan, but I think he may have found a home at Childress. Childress himself has said he sees a lot of the smae qualities.... aggressiveness, impatience, "win or crash" philosophy... in Gordon that he saw in Earnhardt at the beginning of their relationship.

Childress has a great deal of experienmce in developing this type of personality... but if Robby don't get it done here, he's toast.

If memory serves me correct, the original driver picked by A. J. Foyt to replace him when he retired as an active driver, was Robbie Gordon. If A. J. picked him, this tells me he saw something pretty special in Robbie. Just a thought.

It's obvious that AJ likes Robbie. Probably one of the few "old friends" who own race cars that Mr. Gordon has.

There are so many duds in NASCAR it's pathetic! How can Robby be singled out? The power teams in NASCAR are as noticable as the F1 teams. Robby can at least give you 2 chances in 36 (5.55%) of winning a race. There are drivers that never see tv time unless they're on the way to the infield care center or being passed.
If the open-wheel back ground is the reason for him not dominating or being consistently up front, what is the excuse/reason for the home grown in-laws and brothers of stockcar fame running at the rear? Every race isn't at 'Dega!

I thought he retired cause Robby had crashed at Indy and needed to fix the car and he decided just retire.

Yes he did Julie, I was there, the fans were screaming no and everyone was crying. If everyone was standing on the track they would have had to bring out the jet driers to dry the track for his farewell lap.
