    Robbie Gordon - Supersub

I hear that our friend Robbie is going to fill in for Skinner in the #31 while Mike recuperates. How does he keep getting the gigs if he has precious little success in WC or precious little good reputation in dealing with team ownership?

Because he really isn't that bad of a driver. A little too crash-prone, perhaps, but a decent driver.

The greatest crash-prone driver in history I agree Rev...Robbie and Childress is a surprise to me...on the other hand, what other choice is there...

Maybe RC should give Dave Marcis a ride. He and Dave have always been good friends I know. I also realize Dave hasn't won a race in at least 18 years and hasn't had a top ten since '94, but I also realize his team has had less resourses to work with than anyone else over the past decade. This isn't just sentiment - I really want to see how good the old guy is in a decent ride.

Good point about Marcis...I'll be surprised if Skinner is back with Childress next year...truth be told, he hasn't set the world on fire with one of the better rides in the series...

I'd say there's ZERO chance of Skinner staying with RCR next year. I kinda figured that Childress would use this opportunity to try out somebody new. But then again with Harvick on board and Green pretty much in the fold, where do you turn next. . . buy out Stewart's contract??? Wouldn't Home Depot love that!

Technically? Isn't Kenny Wallace without a ride in Winston Cup? Jayski also reported that Childress 'may' put Jeff Green in the Lowes 31Car for a couple of races. Which makes the most sense since Green is already signed for 2002 with RCR...

This Robby Gordon deal wasn't a surprise to me. Richard Childress said at Indy, when he assisted with Robby Gordon's ride at the invitation of AJ, that he thought Robby had a lot of ability and that he may actually work with him in Winston Cup if anything ever opened up on his team. I was surprised at those comments, but since he did say them I was interested to see if Robby would get the sub job. And he did.

    Least you not forget...

the deal goes thru the race at the glen .... for my money in any car at a road course race... id want robby behind the wheel....

So he may suck for the first three races of the deal, but the oppurtunity to gives lowes and the 31 its first win in five years is worth suffering thru three bad races....

heck skinner's made em suffer thru five years of bad races...

Tell me if u think kenny wallace or dave marcis could score a win in that car in a month

Dave Marcis probably wouldn't win in the #31 but I don't think he would do too much worse then Skinner. I'd say especially at Talladega in the #31, Marcis would have a decent chance of his first top 10 since '94 and maybe even a top 5.

Kenny Wallace would do about the same as Skinner. So far it seems Robby is doing about the same as Skinner. Maybe Watkins Glen will change that.

Well, Robby hasn't done much in the #31 either. In fact they've stunk. And so either Harvick is that good, Robby's that bad, or the entire #31 team is out to lunch.

I'd be more willing to call Jeff Purvis the super sub for Skinner since he won a race in his place!

The 31 team isnt out to lunch... i can gaurentee that...

The problem with that team is that mike skinner suffers from Cole Trickle disease (if you remember Days of Thunder.. the Tom Cruise Character.. who didn't know much about race cars... or anything) Mikey is rarely at the shop and rarely gives feedback whether the car is good, bad, or in different.....

Thats why the team "sucks" is because they have a driver who fails to interact with them..

As for why robby sucks.. u just cant get a driver in a car and expect immediate results... cars are prepped at least 2 weeks in advance.. so any changes robby might want wont be implemented till this weekend.. or next weekend..

give it some time... robby will win a race with the 31

Well, I know Robby can drive the wheels off of a race car. I was at the Brickyard when he drove for Sabates and was complaining about the car and Sabates told him he was lapping faster then the leaders. In fact he was the fastest car on the track midway through that run. I am hoping he does well at the Brickyard in the #31 but the test times were poor. And I've been disappointed in their start together so far. Robby doesn't have the luxury of many races to make a good impression.
