NSSN & Area Auto Racing News

While cleaning out closets yesterday (oh fun!) I found a box of NSSN's and AARNs from mid 1990's. Normally I would have tossed them, but I thought somebody here might like them for the stats and stuff. They are FREE to the first interested reply here but you will have to pay shipping. If anybody wants them PLMK and I will find out how much postage is. If no replies I will toss them.
Please visit the tributes to my favorites:

    Joe Leonard / Peter Revson

Sounds real familiar to me. I just cleaned out my old house to sell this summer and tossed out a complete set of AARN from the mid 80s to 2000. I still have a complete set of NSSN from 1982 to this week's issue in my library along with a complete set of Open Wheel from issue one through the last Open Wheel section in Stock Car this year.
If a race car driver whines in the forest and no one is there to hear it, does a fan post about it on a message board?

sounds like Im not the only pack rat here!
I donated my AARN collection from the early 80s to the local vintage racing club. No idea what they did with it. Might be a good idea for your collection.

Not only do I have mine from the early to late 1990 but I inherited my dad's collection of mostly NSSN, some Autoweek and Illustrated Speedway. Some are dated back to the late 1960s.

I'd like to keep them but there comes a time when it just becomes unreasonable to keep them. Sometime in the future I probably will make a similar offer, or just pitch them.

I have a box of varous NSSN and other paper from the 70's and 80's. During the 90's we always gave our week old NSSN's to a friend, but I have many from the last 5 years. Also have years of other mags. What I'll do with them I don't know. Just can't toss 'em.

How about the Motor Racing Research Centre at Watkins Glen? They would love them. The have interns permanently working though the contributions picking out the stuff they don't have and passing on the duplicates to a worthy cause. They are low on NSSN so those would be particularly helpful.

It's the International Motor Racing Research Center, 610 S. Decatur Street, Watkins Glen, NY 14891-1613. Or call the Center at (607)535-9044 and speak to Mark. Or email Mark at research@racingarchives.org.

You can try the Watkins Glen center, but there really isn't much they don't have already. I was there once and their collection is beyond description. A spent a good half of a day browsing, and never came close to seeing a fraction of it! But it still was a great time.
Happiness is Friday morning, Road America, first session, rolling down pit lane, course is clear, we are green!

I was there for two full days last month - my third visit to research US F5000 - and despite the size of the collection there is plenty they don't have. NSSN is the most obvious thing they need. Also, 1973 Formula magazine, 1982 and 1983 On Track and lots and lots more race programs.

I think a retirement home in Watkins Glen sounds pretty good, I'd never be bored.
I'll see YOU at the races!
