    Speaking of Indy "Legends"...

I noticed the thread regarding Larry "First in Line" and it got me to wondering...

Does anyone know who the guy is who appears every day at the track during practice, wearing the entirely black and white outfit, including helmet with racing flags mounted to it and black and white checkered goggles?
I'm from a place called the internet. Nothing disturbs me.

Yes... just keep giving him space.

I've got pictures of him from many different years.

I remember him (nearly) getting into a fight with some drunk a-holes near Gasoline Alley.

I dare someone to go up to him and say 'So, you're here for the golf?'

There was also a gentleman named Norm who had the longest handlebar mustache in the world, I believe. He came to the Speedway for years, but hasn't been around for quite awhile.
    Have a very blessed day!

I don't know who he is, but I just saw him at the USGP last month. A young kid was having his picture taken with him.

There was a guy in the 70's with a super long curling mustache who actually drove a few midget races. Very feminine, he passed around a picture of himself with his face in a womans crotch to try and quell the rumours.

I remember me and my cousin being about 10 at the track, and we came accross a passed out drunk guy near a car. When folks would walk by, we would say "Dad, please get up, Dad, please" Got a lot of "those poor kids" that day.

Hey, we were young and at the track, had to have some fun!

Milt Harper, He actually entered 80 Pocono, but never qualified.

1980 Pocono Stats .... see "non-qualifiers" at the bottom.

look at those 1980 stats. 2 cars on the lead lap. 10th place was almost 30 laps down.

Quite a few non qualifiers, including JR, must have been hurt in a practice wreck.

He used to sit behind us in the NW Vista. He always waited until just before "Gentlemen Startcher Engines". The mustache wilted on really hot days, as I recall.
Anyone remember the guy that used to wear the velvet tux coat and walk down the steps on his hands in the NW Vista?

I have two... George "The T-Shirt Man", and I remember a guy that dressed his little dog in a Sherlock Holmes hat, pipe and jacket. I miss the old days.

Another rather unusual patron I remember seeing out there every day during practice the last time I was there (a couple years ago) - a blind guy with a seeing-eye dog.

I went to the Speedway on Friday and Saturday during the USGP, didn't stay for the race. When I was leaving the track on Saturday afternoon, I spotted the checkered guy on the corner of 25th and Georgetown.

I got an instant dopey grin, made my day to see something I associate with the 500 on a September afternoon.

George was from St. Louis,MO. (my hometown). He passed away (10-15)years ago. I was pretty young then as well, My dad was friends with him. I remember meeting him at the speedway... Larger than life.
