    Sterling Moss

Sometimes it is funny how racing knowledge is passed on. My 7 year old daughter has recieved a Kids Joke Book that has jokes about insects and animals. One in particular needed to be explained to her because she did not get the joke. I will share with you.

"What goes 200 MPH around a lampshade?

    STRELING MOTH"

While it may not be the funniest joke in the book I was able to tell her about Streling Moss and show her some photos.
"Remember, your kids can get student loans, but there's no such thing as a retirement loan."

I believe this to be the Sterling M they were implying towards. Not to many around ever even heard about Moss, One of the great road race specialists. I dont believe Moss ever turned a lap at the top speed of 200 mph before? Although on the long straight at
Le Mans it may have happened, Not around and around though.

I believe if the answer was "Sterling Marlin" the qustion would have been "What goes 200 MPH around a sport fishing boat?”

When I was a kid, my dad had a Stirling Moss book "All But My Life", had some good photos, was his autobiography. Thought it was a good title for a surviving race car driver!

In 1957 Moss drove an MG land speed record car to 246.5 mph at the Salt Flats.

It's Sir Stirling Moss, alright. That joke has being going around in Britain for 50 years.
the 200mph & the round & round shouldn't be taken literally.
