A new generation comes to grips...

For the first time I can remember, my generation has witnessed this country being attacked. For me, it is interesting to see how everyone is reacting. Walking around campus, I see American Flags being displayed at Fraternity houses, signs saying "I believe in Peace" and other similar sayings are taped to doors, windows, and the ground. A number of vigils have taken place.

We don't know what to do, but realize there's something that we need to do.

It's time for us to grow up, we are no longer innocent. This could very well be my generation's defining moment...

It could well be all of our defining moments.

    Thoughts and prayers.

Not very promising. This is war, our enemy has declared it and we have no choice but to fight it. Our 10 years of peace after the Cold War has now ended, it is time to call the dogs of war.

This generation saw cowards in action. I don't know if it will stir any more patrotisim than thumping Saddam in war only to let his butt go free.

The saddest thing about what happened (besides the loss of life) is that these were American planes. Flown in American airspace. Originating from American cities.

It is an indictment of our aviation system. They have exposed our soft underbelly and showed everybody how vulnerable we can be.

    The following should happen:

    1. No carry on luggage.

    2. Put a secure barrier between the pilots and passengers.

    3. The FAA/Air Force need a tactical wing to intercept planes that veer off course. Air traffic control knew quite soon that there was a problem.

    4. Electronic thumb print (like the Department of Motor vechicles) every passenger when they board a plane or any transportation. A little BIG Brother should only bother terrorists and criminals who use our transportation system.

    5. The government should be in charge of security, it should not be the airlines.

This terrorist attack was so avoidable it's not even funny. 8 years ago the WTC terrorists told about other ways to do the dirty deed, including using planes. We just didn't listen.

Generations rarely learn any lessons from the spilling of somebody elses blood. Only being a part of a great depression, a world war... do they learn... sometimes a little too late.

I don't know if it is just where I am and the type of college I'm attending, but there is a surprising sentiment for peace.

Hardly anyone seems to want a conflict at this point. I felt like Mr. WarHawk in class.

My generation only barely remembers Desert Storm, and it just looked like a video game to me. Now, we must react, but what will we end up doing?

    Brick...I like your suggestions.

    Thanks

Conflict is interesting. One can avoid conflict and look weak, or avoid it and look strong. One can have peace being feeling submissive, or peace feeling secure.

Punishment for the acts is necessary. But they were previously punished after the bombing 8 years ago... (prision time) it didn't deter them, therefore they need a dose of what they can understand, respect, and most importantly, comprehend.

They need to die. Slowly disappearing one by one in the night would do so much more than any cruise missle could do. Striking fear into their heartless hearts.
