Vernon & NAMARS
NAMARS and Putnamville has re-scheduled their rained out 5-CROWN date against the RACIN' with D.O. RACIN'-FEST at Vernon Twin Cities Raceway Park September 8th. During the radio show Monday night Joe Mershon said that they where still looking at other dates in deference to the RACIN'-Fest. But the NAMARS website had already posted that the new date would be the September 8th date. VERNON will only require 20 sprintcars on Saturday for the USAC $10,000 to win race, as the starting field will be set on Friday for the $10,000 to win on Friday night. This was set up this way so sprint racers that missed the show could go race somewhere, and make some money, instead of paying another pitpass to run a b-main and miss the show on Saturday. So sprint car wise Putnamville should have a large count as on a normal Saturday you have races at Vernon, The Burg, Paragon, Putnamville and other tracks and the cars counts are fine. The only thing that might hold back some of the sprint cars would be if they party to hard at the after race bon-fire and band party in the in-field afterwards on Friday. The midget race is a USAC regional midget race and many of the NAMARS drivers are involved with the USAC Regional series like Shane Hollingsworth and John WOlfe plus others. So the question is how many midgets will stay to race the Saturday race at Vernon. The purse is a Regional based purse but we had started working before the rescheduling to find additional sponsors to fatten up the midget pay out as Saturday the Midgets will be the feature event next to the $10,000 to win Sprint feature race. So I hope that the fans, drivers, crews and cars will be happy with the choice they have to make on that Saturday. Do they come to Vernon for a day of Hog / Corn Roast and parade in downtown Vernon, along with the Tony Funk band, then head over to the Twin Cities Raceway Park for a night of USAC NATIONAL SPRINTS and USAC REGIONAL MIDGETS. One question I have about the rescheduled date which I haven't asked anybody yet is will the NAMARS 5-CROWN event be a stand alone or will the LINCOLN PARK IRON CLASSES be running with NAMARS? If you are looking for a room for the Vernon RACIN'-FEST try thr Holiday INN at SR46 and I-65 in Columbus and ask for the Vernon Twin Cities Raceway Park special deal of $68.00 a night plus tax. See you at the races.

Ok, I can understand where this could raise concern.
I listened to the radio show, and I remember Joe saying it was "tentatively" rescheduled for September 8th, though the website left out this word. I think enough have expressed their concern about this, and I was told that other dates are being explored last I spoke with their office. I would not believe that NAMARS would purposely schedule against another show; It just might just be the only date that is available for the track and NAMARS without going into October???
Given the troubles TwinCities had with the UDTRA, maybe there is something else going on that would not affect a show on September 8th???
I wouldn't jump to conclusions yet, or get heated about the matter, it’s my opinion NAMARS has always been about creating new events and has not been in the practice of purposely scheduling against other shows. In fact I can recall several instances of everyone else running their shows against NAMARS. Whatever the decision is, there ought to be plenty of great racing for fans to go see.
Just my two cents…
