Oil Scavenge HP Gains in IRL Chevy????

In the week's leading up to Homestead I saw a quote by GM's Joe Negri that Chevrolet had discovered an oil scavenge problem that had been remedied and had added 10 horsepower to the Indy Chevy. While obviously oil windage and scavenging issues are important to race engines this seemed a little strange somehow. Since the Chevy has been around awhile does this mean that the problem has been there all along but was just now discovered? Did something change in the oiling system since last season? Would the Chevrolets have found the extra 10 HP last season if they had been in competition with Honda and Toyota then instead of just Infiniti? Or is this just some kind of PR statement out of GM to address the new competitive reality of the IRL? Does anyone have any insight on this???

The Indy Chevy is a brand new engine this year, and shares no parts with last years IRL chevy.
"IRL" ... what IS that anyway?

Thanks for the reply, CamKing. That explains a lot. It also makes me suspect that there are more potential areas of development yet to be found in the Chevrolet. Personally, I think that this is a golden opportunity for GM to show what they can do against some really serious competition.

So how come Chevy, with all it's IRL experience and resources, comes up with such a dog, and Toy has such a winner- with an engine presumably copied from last year's Chevy....

Toyota's been working on this engine for TWO years now while Chevy was trying to win the Championship last year. With the engine so much smaller and lighter this year, they didn't account for or expect the torsion effect that it's putting on the chassis. At least that's what I was told. They've spent NUMEROUS hours here in Phoenix at the GM testing grounds "straight lining" to try to find the remedy for that problem. Haven't heard lately if it's gotten any better or what. Any news Cammy?

Oh Cammy...BTW...so you can tell us exactly what's wrong with the Chevy engine.....I hereby "friggen apologize" for whatever the League or Engine mfgrs have done to you. They're EXTREMELY sorry! Now tell us what's wrong!
    But that's just my opinion!

Now that's an interesting tidbit. Any idea who they're using as a driver....and is it in a Dallara or G-Force? Any specific team associated?
Coming to you from the pinnacle of cynical.
