    New F-1 deal "close"

Atlas, the well regarded pay site, is reporting that Ron Dennis of McLaren is saying that a new deal between Bernie and GPWC is amost done:

"I would say, based on the knowledge I have, which is reasonably comprehensive, that we are very close to finding a good commercial balance for the future," Dennis said. "It's inevitable that something as complex as these negotiations that has such a tremendous commercial impact on all the participants of Formula One is going to take time but I think it will be resolved well before the end of the year."

An agreement on the commercial rights is crucial for the future of Formula One as it stands because the manufacturers have created a company to set up a new series if they do not get what they are demanding.

If Bernie and the GPWC strike a deal, as seems likely, that would remove the possibility of turning CART into some kind of replacement series for F-1.

Isn't that really the reason that that CART was started?

So that takes away at least one plausible scenario for those who are supposedly buying CART. Without this angle, CART will have to succeed on its own as a NAFTA series as you have proposed while serving as an F-1 feeder. I believe I have mentioned before that I don't see this as a viable solution. This scenario could concievably work but, clearly, CART's own coffers will be long dry by then and the amount of money it will take to carry CART until this bird flies is daunting, to say the least. You've also been saying that Forysthe and Kalkhoven will take CART private if no one else shows up. I believe that is exactly what will happen. I am very skeptical, though, how far down the road and how deep in their pockets these fellows will go. Without Bernie and the sub-for-F1 variation, this deal looks DOA.

Whining? I didn't notice any whining but only "plausible scenarios".
    But that's just my opinion!
