OT help save some more NASA History!

The old Apollo Launch towers are still around, and are about to get demolished. Might not be a bad idea to preserve them.

#863...I forwarded the site addresses and some info to the Indiana Historic Landmarks Foundation to see if they might rally the troops to also weigh in on this.

    Cool

I don't get online petitions, especially this one. It isn't addessed to anyone or or any group in particular ("To All of Humanity" ). How and when is it ever delivered to a decision-maker? And virtually no attempt is made at verifying "signatures."

A worthy goal to save and restore this bit of history, but this petition seems useless.

With all due respect, some folks think voting in Presidential elections is just as useless.

I feel the same way about both issues: it can't hurt, so why not. # 893.

I was at Canaveral in 1984 and took the "Historic Tour" and the "Contempory Tour" and was GREATLY disapointed with the Historic sights - most were gone. I wanted to see the Murcury and Gemini and NOTHING but a grove of trees where they had been. Very sad it was gone but they explained with the salty air it was impossible to spend the money to maintain and save them.

All that salt in the air has also done much damage to the shuttles as they have sat on the launch pads over the years.

I am attending a dinner Sunday evening with members of the National Trust for the Preservation of Historic Landmarks. They are already behind this, but I'll have a chance to talk to them about this and find out what's up...

I've been fortunate enough to see a couple shuttle launches, but never a Saturn V launch. From people I've spoken to, there's no comparison. You held your breathe waiting for the Saturn to slowly clear the tower. It was real white-knuckle stuff.

    Has anyone here seen both?

What really hurts is to see Apollo 17(?) in Houston, just sitting exposed and slowly dying from seagull poop. It's the real thing, not just a mock-up, and is a REAL national treasure. A hypalon tent couldnt be that expensive. There's one out here, west of Pomona, that is used by a paper recycler for scrap paper storage, that's easily high enough and almost long enough.

Hi folks. Thanks for signing the petition. The purpose of it is as stated, to show who wishes it to be saved. We will show results to anyone who can make a difference.

I'm on the volunteer team that is trying to save the launch pad. We worked hard this week and saved the pad from destruction that was going to begin on Thursday, but we now have only a short while to try to raise funds to convince NASA to save it.

Our goal is to create an exhibit that people can visit, for education and inspiration. If possible it will be declared a national monument to Apollo.

Good thing we didn't have the same attitude about the Statue of Liberty.

You don't honestly believe that had ANYTHING to do with the Judge's decision do you?
    But that's just my opinion!
